Mulago is dying due to the selfishness of politicians in office. You cannot provide less than 50% of the funding for the only specialized national referral hospital, allocate it less than 40% of the required technical staff, and still expect miracles or state-of-the-art services.

Mulago's Executive Director and Board should use this incident to amplify the call for adequate funding for Mulago and the entire healthcare sector, increasing the budget allocation to at least 15%. Government officials and politicians should be banned from seeking medical care abroad. An affordable and realistic national health insurance scheme should be fast-tracked.

Comrade Yasin Ssekitoleko alias Machete is still on a hunger strike since February 19th which has caused him tremendous suffering and weight loss. He demands to be tried in the civilian courts as ordered by the January 31st 2025 Supreme Court Judgement. Machete’s file and that of the other eight comrades have not yet been transferred to the civilian courts. The regime is hesitant to bow to its own court orders. What an absurdity!
