COFTU is a National labour center/ federation of labour unions founded in 2003 and became established by an Act of Parliament, the labour Unions Act of 2006 as a registered federation of labour Unions. it brings together & co-ordinates activities of the 24 affiliated national unions & 112 District Workers' Forums representing all categories of workers in Uganda; from the Public, Private, formula a
nd in-formula sectors with grassroots structures country wide. COFTU OBJECTIVES
To advance, protect, promote and defend the social and economic interests of workers. To serve as a consultant on all matters relating to workers and labour Union affairs. To formulate policies relating to the proper management of the labour Unions and the general welfare of workers. To plan for and administer in collaboration with other interested bodies or persons workers' education programs. To coordinate and supervise the activities of Labour Unions. Represent workers and serve as a link between labour unions, the government and international organizations in all matters of mutual interest.
