For years, many ordinary Ugandans, the boda rider, the welder, the tailor, the market vendor, remained excluded from traditional banking systems despite driving the country’s informal economy. In response, the Government of the Republic of Uganda established Emyooga as a community-based financing model designed around organized and disciplined SACCOs within specific trades and enterprise groups. With over UGX 660 billion invested so far, Emyooga is expanding access to capital, financial inclusion and enterprise development for thousands across the country. You do not need a suit to participate — you need organization, discipline and a committed SACCO.

In today’s The New Vision , writers discussed how Gen. Salim Saleh “hit 20 birds with one stone” through his bold agricultural intervention in Acholi under Operation Joseph. What started as a risky seed distribution programme worth sh10.5 billion has now transformed communities across Northern Uganda by promoting peace in conflict-prone areas like Apaa, reducing charcoal burning, boosting household incomes, attracting investors, reviving trade, and turning thousands of farmers into active participants in commercial agriculture. The article highlights how the initiative has become a symbol of economic transformation and sustainable development in the region.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has strongly defended Uganda’s industrialisation agenda, responding to criticism from journalist Andrew M. Mwenda by reaffirming his commitment to patriotism, Pan-Africanism, economic transformation, and value addition. In a detailed statement issued on Saturday, May 23, 2026, the President highlighted Uganda’s progress in sectors such as coffee, dairy, steel, gold refining, palm oil, and manufacturing, arguing that industrialisation and export promotion remain the sure path to economic independence. Gen. Museveni also praised initiatives like PDM and local innovators across the country, insisting that despite criticism and setbacks, Uganda’s transformation journey is unstoppable because “failure from which we learn lessons, is success.”

In late 2012, Salim Saleh, then Presidential Advisor on Defence and now Chief Coordinator of Operation Wealth Creation, proposed an unconventional approach to fighting corruption, suggesting amnesty for corrupt public officials willing to confess and proposing that government recover stolen wealth by taxing undeclared properties linked to corruption instead of confiscating them. Saleh argued that “the thieves are known, they walk freely among us, and even their properties are known,”
