**TRAFFIC ADVISORY: LA 82 PERRY BRIDGE CLOSURE**

The Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office advises motorists that the LA 82 Perry Bridge will be closed beginning Monday, October 12, 2026, through May 31, 2027, weather permitting, for bridge rehabilitation.

**The bridge will be closed to all traffic, including emergency vehicles.**

Motorists should plan accordingly, allow additional travel time, and utilize the designated detour route:

LA 3267 → LA 14 → US 167 → LA 335 → LA 694

Please use caution when traveling through the affected area.

For five weeks, I had the privilege of spending time with the participants of our Fall Citizen’s Academy as they learned more about the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office and the men and women who serve our parish every day.

Throughout the academy, participants got a firsthand look at our Enforcement, Investigations, Corrections, and Civil Divisions through classroom instruction and hands-on activities. My hope is that everyone who participated walked away with a better understanding of what our deputies do each day and how each division works together to serve and protect the people of Vermilion Parish.

We wrapped up the academy with Graduation and Range Day. Participants watched our SWAT Team conduct a breaching demonstration, experienced a virtual traffic stop simulation, and had the opportunity to spend some time on the firing range before receiving their certificates of completion.

I want to personally thank everyone who participated in this academy. Taking time out of your schedules to learn more about your Sheriff’s Office means a great deal to me. I'd also like to thank our deputies who helped make this academy possible. I’m proud of the work they do, and I appreciate their willingness to share their knowledge and experience with the citizens we serve.

We are grateful to Blue Bell Creameries for generously donating ice cream sandwiches for our Second Annual National Night Out, and to the Abbeville City Marshals for joining us again this year and handing them out to families during the event!

Yesterday, SpaceX executives came to Vermilion Parish to hear directly from and speak with the people who will be closest to Starbase Louisiana.

The SpaceX team began in Pecan Island, meeting with residents of the community where Starbase, Louisiana will be located and giving them an opportunity to ask how rocket launches will impact their way of life. The conversation continued in Abbeville, where they spoke with more than 300 Vermilion Parish residents about the project’s future and what our community can expect in the coming years.

The conversation included plans for a conservation wildlife, coastal restoration, how sportsmen and rocket operations can coexist, and the wide range of jobs SpaceX expects to offer among other topics regarding space and rocket launches.

Thank you to the SpaceX team for listening and answering questions, and to everyone who attended. I look forward to many more conversations like these as the project develops and moves forward.

CATTLE FESTIVAL DRONE SAFETY NOTICE

The Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office will fly law enforcement drones throughout the Louisiana Cattle Festival, October 2-4, 2026, as part of our efforts to help ensure the safety and security of attendees.

VPSO will strictly enforce Vermilion Parish Police Jury Ordinance No. 2025 O 01 regarding the takeoff and landing of drones. During festival hours, drone pilots may not take off or land a drone within the designated two-mile radius surrounding the festival grounds unless authorized.

Sheriff Eddie Langlinais reminds drone operators to plan accordingly and comply with all federal, state and local requirements. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation in helping make the Louisiana Cattle Festival safe and enjoyable for all.

The Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office thanks Brody Meaux and Benjamin Meaux with Vermilion 4-H for donating a new target to our firing range as a thank you for allowing them to use the facility.

Sheriff Eddie Langlinais and VPSO are grateful for partnerships like this that allow us to continue supporting and investing in the youth of Vermilion Parish.
