Remember Pearl Harbor! 🇺🇸 💔 🇺🇸
Louisiana’s last known Pearl Harbor survivor passed away just a couple of months ago after celebrating his 100th birthday. Mr. Joe Richard enlisted in the Navy when he was just 16 years old. He was soon assigned to the USS Rigel which was docked at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He was enjoying grapes for breakfast on December 7, 1941, when the attack began. In the following days, Mr. Joe helped save 33 people from the USS Arizona and three from the USS Oklahoma. It was an honor to have known him.

We are grateful for all those who are currently serving, or have served, in the Armed Forces. Missing holidays at home and special occasions with family and friends isn’t easy, but we appreciate those sacrifices made.

Day 2 of the 3rd Annual Veteran Heritage Festival was absolutely wonderful! Due to the forecast, we moved everything indoors, but that didn’t dampen anyone’s mood. A steady stream of visitors, including scout troops, families, veterans, and active-duty military personnel enjoyed our exhibits and presenters all day long!

Thanks, Lidia Alcala, for inviting us on your show to remind everyone to come out for our 3rd Annual Veteran Heritage Festival- starting TODAY!
The Louisiana Military Museum completed construction of its facility at the Chris Crusta Memorial Airport in Abbeville, Louisiana, in 2009. Since then, the museum has continued to expand its horizons and seek new opportunities to honor veterans and connect people with their past. In 2018, statewide budget cuts forced the museum to become self-funded. We need your help!
To continue our tradition of honoring veterans through our museum exhibits, tours, and special events, we are asking private and corporate donors to consider supporting the Louisiana Military Museum, a 501(c)(3) non-profit entity. All donations are tax-deductible to the extent of the law and directly support the museum and its operations.
