๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ”ฅ FIRE PREVENTION MONTH โ€“ OCTOBER ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿš’

As we kick off the month of October, we had the pleasure of spending the afternoon with the amazing kids at the Abbeville Boys & Girls Club! โค๏ธ

We enjoyed the opportunity to share important fire safety and prevention tips, educate our youth, and help them understand the importance of staying safe in an emergency. It was a great afternoon filled with learning, engagement, and community connection!

A special thank you to the Abbeville Boys & Girls Club for welcoming us and allowing us to be part of such a meaningful experience. Together, weโ€™re building a safer, stronger communityโ€”one child at a time! ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿš’๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿš’

We are proud to welcome Jonathan Goodrich and Trey Montagne to the Abbeville Fire Department!

Both were officially hired at last night's City Council meeting and will now begin working alongside our firefighters, learning the ropes and building their knowledge and skills here at AFD.

Over the coming months, Jonathan and Trey will gain valuable hands-on experience with the department before heading to the fire academy. The time spent training with our crew now will give them a strong foundation and an advantage when they begin their formal academy training.

Weโ€™re glad to have them joining our team and look forward to watching them grow into their new roles serving the citizens of Abbeville.

We had a great time at National Night Out at A.A. Comeaux Park!

Our crew enjoyed visiting with families, handing out goodies and spending time with some of the youngest members of our community. Of course, the fire hose was a hit! The kids got in on the action and tried their hand at spraying the hose and we may have had a few future firefighters in the group.

Thank you to the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office for bringing everyone together for another great National Night Out, and thank you to everyone who stopped by to see us!

Today's shift enjoyed some time with our fellow first responders at the First Responders Ice Cream Social at Lafitte Drive-In Park. And of course, burgers and ice cream made it even better!

A big thank you to the Vermilion Chamber of Commerce and Acadian Ambulance Service for hosting and taking the time to show their appreciation for the men and women who serve our community.

We appreciate everyone who helped put this together and enjoyed spending some time with our fellow first responders!

Twenty-five years ago, 343 FDNY firefighters went to work and never returned home.

On September 11, 2001, firefighters, police officers, paramedics and other first responders ran toward unimaginable danger while thousands of others were trying to escape it.

Today, the Abbeville Fire Department remembers the firefighters and first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice, those who have since lost their lives to 9/11-related illnesses, and the families and fellow firefighters who continue to carry their memory.

For the fire service, Never Forget is more than a phrase. It is a promise to remember their courage, their service and their sacrifice.

343. Twenty-five years later, we still remember. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

This morningโ€™s shift joined members of Abbeville Public Works Department for a quarterly safety meeting.

The training covered 811 Safe Dig practices, along with human factors, safe behaviors and injury prevention, including how the choices we make every day can help prevent accidents before they happen.

Whether weโ€™re responding to an emergency, working around equipment or handling everyday tasks, safety starts with awareness and looking out for the person next to you.

We appreciate the opportunity to sit in the training alongside our Public Works team and continue building a stronger safety culture across our departments.

AFD Responds to Labor Day House Fire

Shortly after midnight on Labor Day morning, the Abbeville Fire Department received a report of a house fire in the 700 block of Clover Street.

AFD responded alongside the Erath, 7th Ward, and Henry Fire Departments and arrived to find a two-story home with heavy fire on both floors. Due to the size of the structure and the high temperatures that night, a second alarm was called for additional assistance from the Maurice, Meaux/Nunez, and LeBlanc Fire Departments.

We appreciate all of the departments and firefighters who responded and worked together under difficult conditions to bring the fire under control.

The Louisiana State Fire Marshalโ€™s Office is handling the investigation into the cause of the fire.
