The perfect start to summer. ☀️🎶

We had an incredible time kicking off the summer season at last night’s Thursday Night Jams show with Pink Beds!

Next month your favorite summer music series gets even better, with TWO performances at the Market Pavilion:

Like always, free and open to all ages, 7:00-9:30 PM. Bring your own chair or blanket. Sip and stroll with your favorite beverages in the designated downtown areas. Hit the town before and after for incredible food and drinks at our local restaurants.

Your favorite summer music series just got even better. 💚🎶

Thanks to the incredible community support around Thursday Night Jams, we're adding two NEW show dates to the 2026 season!

✨ July 9 — Moonbeau
✨ August 13 — Cinémathèque

Just like the rest of the Jams, these shows will take place at the Market Pavilion from 7 PM - 9:30 PM. FREE and open to all ages.

Bring your own chair or blanket. Sip and stroll with your favorite beverages in the designated downtown areas. Hit the town before and after for incredible food and drinks at our local restaurants.

Let’s roll! 🏁🏎️

The Second Annual Soap Box Derby is set for Saturday, September 5, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. along Main Street from Partington Place to Pecan Street. *Registration is now open and free to all racers!

This year we’re proud to partner with Feeding Southwest Virginia (celebrating their 45th anniversary in 2026!) with an on-site food drive and outreach on how the public can support their efforts to end hunger across the region.

Big Wheel Race: Ages 3–7 (free registration)
Youth Division: Ages 8–15 (free registration)
Grand Prix: Ages 16+ with valid driver’s license (free registration)

Awards will include Most Creative Design, Best Finish Line Celebration, and Fastest Car. The First-Place Overall Team will receive a trophy and a $500 Food City gift card, along with additional category recognitions.

Spectators can enjoy an official fan zone with food trucks and activities throughout the event, plus sip, stroll, and enjoy your favorite beverages from nearby businesses. A special aftershow will begin at 2 PM with Americana artist Philip Bowen on The Martha Washington lawn.

*Safety remains a priority. All cars must meet event design requirements, including gravity-only propulsion, functional brakes, and secure construction. Drivers are required to wear helmets and protective gear, and all entries will be reviewed by a Safety Inspector prior to racing. Teams may include up to four members, one driver per car, one practice run, and one timed run per team. Full rules, race schedule, and registration details are available at the link in comments.

Save the date, history lovers! 🕯️ LibertyFest, a signature event of the VA250 - American Revolution 250 Commission, is happening this September 24-27 at the Abingdon Muster Grounds, Fairview Historic Homestead, across Main Street, at the Barter Theatre, and William King Museum of Art.

LibertyFest will celebrate Southwest Virginia’s vital role in the fight for independence, telling the story of the Overmountain Men and life in the region during the Revolution. The festival will transform Abingdon into a living history experience, with historical interpreters, colonial-inspired food and drink, family activities, educational programming, and live music.

Celebrate Independence Day in Abingdon at the Meadows Sports Complex! A fun-filled evening for the whole crew is in store, with a bike parade on the Virginia Creeper Trail, carnival games, DJ Big Lon, watermelon eating contest, Uncle Sam on stilts, and a full beach party set with The Tams!

The 5th Annual Abingdon Fiddlers' Convention is happening at the Washington County Fairgrounds in on June 19-20.

Make plans to bring the whole family for a relaxed weekend of mountain music as old-time, bluegrass, and gospel musicians from all over the region compete in a series of competitions. This year is set to be bigger than ever, with a live performance from GRAMMY award-winning bluegrass artist Shelby Means, former upright bassist of Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway and Della Mae!

Daily admission and weekend wristbands can be pre-purchased online, as well as in-person at the event. Children 12 and under attend free.

Make it a weekend getaway! Tent and RV camping spots are also available.
