⛈️ Heads up: More storms are on the way today. A slow-moving weather system will bring another round of storms to our area. While we could all see some action, the strongest storms are expected to develop over the Piedmont and push east toward the coast.💨 Primary Threat: Damaging wind gusts that could knock down tree limbs or cause isolated power outages.🌧️ Secondary Threat: Heavy downpours with the stronger cells, which could cause brief localized ponding.

These ladies are Delta Sigma Theta sorority sisters who I spoke with at our recent reproductive rights celebration at the Turning Point Suffragist Memorial. On the right is Malana, one of my Governor’s Fellows this summer.

The Deltas played an essential role in the movement for women’s suffrage. In the fight for women's suffrage in 1913, the founders of Delta Sigma Theta and members of the sorority bravely participated in the Women's Suffrage Procession in Washington, D.C. While they faced hostility from other suffragettes, they persevered. I’m grateful for all they have done and all they continue to do.

Today, the General Assembly has moved forward with a budget proposal — and that means we are keeping our government open and delivering for the 8.8 million people who call our Commonwealth home.

There is a lot to be proud of in this budget. It delivers raises for our teachers and public employees, makes new investments in our schools, includes a RGGI credit for residential customers and small businesses, and takes other tangible steps to make Virginia more affordable — all while protecting families from the devastating cuts in the so-called ‘One Big Beautiful Bill.’

Importantly, this budget positions the Commonwealth to be a national leader on data centers. For the first time anywhere in America, Virginia will institute a statewide energy consumption tax on data centers — an idea I first proposed this spring — to ensure this industry pays its fair share and does not drive up costs for Virginia families.

This is a compromise proposal — one my administration helped craft — and it builds a strong foundation for further discussions about the future of this industry in Virginia on issues like environmental and community impact.

Failing to pass a budget would have been unprecedented in the history of our Commonwealth — and it was never an option. My focus remains exactly where it has always been: lowering costs for Virginians, delivering for our schools and communities, and supporting the families who count on their government to meet its most basic responsibilities.

Happy Father’s Day to my own father, my husband Adam, and all of Virginia’s dads, grandfathers, and father figures! I hope all dads are spending a joyful day with loved ones.

Juneteenth is a celebration of when freedom and independence were finally granted for all Americans — and it brings people together to celebrate with their neighbors!

On this Juneteenth, I’m reflecting on the full history that led to this celebration. In April, the Commonwealth of Virginia dedicated the African Landing Memorial at old Point Comfort here in Virginia — honoring the first Africans who were brought against their will to North America in 1619. Individuals who shaped our nation. Virginia's connection to this history is deeper than many people realize.
