Fire company serving Abington Township, Pennsylvania Three days later, the fire company was founded.
In 1889 the people of Abington decided at a town meeting to form a fire company - the first in the township. The first firehouse was built on Old York Road across from what is now Abington Memorial Hospital. Abington Fire Company assisted on a basement fire yesterday afternoon. 100 crews executed fire suppression, checked for fire extension and helped with overhaul of the incident. Operations were quick and efficient, and the fire was put out shortly after companies arrived.

ATFD had the pleasure of hearing from retired Camden Fire Department Captain Bryan Emenecker this Thursday night. Emenecker's presentation was on keeping the fire service relevant and emphasized mastering the basics of firefighting and maintaining aggressive tactics on the fireground. The event was part of ATFDs township training initiative and had all five Abington companies in attendance.

The Abington Fire Company is saddened to share the news of the passing of Life Member Paul J. Marino. Paul served as a member of the Abington Fire Company for over 63 years, joining when he was just 19 years old.
Not only was Paul dedicated to serving Abington Township, but spent years also protecting out nation. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1964 to serve in the Vietnam War.
Paul passed away peacefully on January 13, 2026.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Wednesday morning, January 21, 2026, from 9:30 to 11:00 am., followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:00 am., at the Queen of Peace Church, 820 North Hills Ave., Ardsley, PA 19038. Military Honors and Interment at Hillside cemetery.

At 1325 today Abington Fire Company received a call for a vehicle accident standby for a vehicle into a building. Deputy 100 was on scene and advised a vehicle collided with a building, was on its side, and had one occupant still entrapped. With the assistance of Weldon Fire Company and McKinley Fire Company, the occupant was safely removed and transported by Second Alarmer's Association and Rescue Squad of Montgomery County. The building was assessed for the extent of damage and crews remained on scene while the vehicle was removed. Thanks to Abington Township Police Dept., PA and Lindley Towing for assistance on this call.
