Leah Thompson is the Director of Advancement at BART Charter Public School. As Thompson reflected on her experience in the Berkshires workforce, she states, "being part of this community is an honor. We see every day the difference women make in their workplaces, families, and communities, and it's inspiring. Looking back at graduation photos from last spring is always bittersweet. Seeing our seniors cross the stage and step into college, the workforce, or military service is what it is all about, even if the building feels a little different without them. Proud of where our newest alumni are heading.

Last week, local professionals and community members came to BART to work one-on-one with our seniors on their college essays. Having fresh eyes and constructive feedback from outside the classroom gives students a valuable perspective as they refine their personal statements and prepare their applications. Thank you to everyone who took time out of their workday to read drafts, offer feedback, and support our students through the process.

Last Friday was a perfect backdrop for the 6th grade trip to the local orchard. Crisp fall air, clear skies, and a great way to kick off the long weekend.

Starting in January 2027, BART is launching a new Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program in partnership with Integritus Health. The six-month course will offer 10 juniors and seniors approximately 100 hours of independent coursework, hands-on lab practice, and clinical training at Williamstown Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Students in the program will earn their CNA certification, CPR certification, and Narcan administration training at no cost to their families, while fulfilling BART's internship requirement for graduation. This joins our growing list of tuition-free industry credentials, including CompTIA+, OSHA 10, food handler, and allergen certifications.

Creating direct pathways into healthcare helps our students gain real credentials while addressing a critical need for nursing professionals right here in the Berkshires.

Hope you are having a restful long weekend. A quick reminder for our 10th and 11th graders: testing is coming up this Tuesday morning.

The best preparation comes down to the basics: getting solid rest and eating a good breakfast. For our juniors, the PSAT/NMSQT opens up National Merit Scholarship opportunities. BART provides all testing materials and calculators, though students may bring their own if approved.

Enjoy the rest of the long weekend, eat well on Tuesday morning, and come in ready.

Figure drawing takes close observation, patience, and a lot of practice. Our AP Art students are currently in the middle of their figure drawing projects, focusing on proportion, shading, and form as their work takes shape in the studio.
