Spartan Nation,

The South Jefferson Central School District Board of Education is pleased to announce the selection of Jennifer Gaffney-Goodnough as the districtโ€™s next Superintendent of Schools, pending formal approval at our November 4 Board meeting.

Mrs. Gaffney-Goodnough brings deep connections to the Spartan community. She is a South Jefferson graduate, a former district teacher, and longtime resident. Mrs. Gaffney-Goodnough also brings extensive educational leadership experience to the district. She has served as Superintendent of the neighboring Sackets Harbor Central School District since 2017, following ten years as its Kโ€“12 principal. Mrs. Gaffney-Goodnough shares the Boardโ€™s commitment to strong community relationships, supporting faculty and staff in advancing the districtโ€™s vision, and leading through service to others. Together, the Board and Mrs. Gaffney-Goodnough will continue the districtโ€™s work of connecting with students and building great people.

โ€œI am deeply grateful for the opportunity to return to the district where I graduated and first discovered my love for education and leadership,โ€ said Mrs. Gaffney-Goodnough. โ€œSouth Jefferson holds a special place in my heart, and I am ready to give my heart and soul to serving this school community. I look forward to working alongside our students, staff, families, and community to bring our mission, vision, and values to life and make the Spartan Nation the best it can be.โ€

In the interest of integrity during the search process, Board member Erin Gaffney, Mrs. Gaffney-Goodnoughโ€™s sister, immediately recused herself upon learning of her sisterโ€™s application and did not participate in any subsequent search-related communications, deliberations, or decisions. Following Mrs. Gaffney-Goodnoughโ€™s
selection, Ms. Gaffney submitted her resignation from the Board, effective January 1, 2027, to avoid potential conflicts of interest. The Board thanks her for her years of service and dedication to South Jefferson.

The Board also thanks Mr. Christopher DiFulvio, District Superintendent of Jefferson-Lewis BOCES, for his role in facilitating this superintendent search, which attracted a very strong pool of candidates for the board to consider.

Mannsville students in Mrs. Woodardโ€™s class explored the science behind one tasty question: Why do plants give us fruit? As part of their Mystery Science lesson, students examined familiar grocery store produce and made predictions about whether each item was a science fruit or a science vegetable.

Then came the investigation! Students took a closer look at slices of their produce to search for seeds and discover what makes a fruit a fruit in the world of science.

This national initiative recognizes and thanks the people who help feed, clothe and sustain our communities and our future. With Adams selected as a tour stop, it was a special opportunity to celebrate the next generation of agricultural leaders right here in our community.

South Jefferson High School is excited to kick off their brand new recognition program: ๐’๐ญ๐ฎ๐๐ž๐ง๐ญ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐Œ๐จ๐ง๐ญ๐ก!

This program is an opportunity to celebrate students for more than just academic achievement. When considering a nomination, we are looking for students who demonstrate one or more of the following:

๐‚๐‡๐€๐‘๐€๐‚๐“๐„๐‘ โ€“ Kind, respectful, trustworthy, and consistently does the right thing.

๐†๐‘๐Ž๐–๐“๐‡ โ€“ Has shown noticeable academic, behavioral, or personal improvement.

๐‹๐„๐€๐ƒ๐„๐‘๐’๐‡๐ˆ๐ โ€“ Positively influences others, with or without holding a formal leadership role.

๐„๐…๐…๐Ž๐‘๐“ โ€“ Works hard, perseveres, accepts feedback, and doesn't give up.
