Addison Man Charged with Shooting at Occupied Vehicle to Remain on Pre-Trial Detention
WHEATON – DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Addison Chief of Police Roy Selvik announced that last weekend, Judge Michael Fleming granted the State’s motion to deny pre-trial release for an Addison man charged with shooting at an occupied vehicle. Edwin Orozco, 23 (d.o.b. 10/21/2002) of the 1500 block of W. Byron Avenue, appeared in First Appearance Court on Saturday, October 17, 2026, charged with one count of Aggravated Discharge of a Fi***rm at an Occupied Vehicle (Class 1 Felony), one count of Possession of a Fi***rm by a Street Gang Member (Class 2 Felony), one count of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon (Class 4 Felony) and one count of Mob Action (Class 4 Felony).
On October 4, 2026, Addison Police responded to a call of shots fired at Lake Street and Neva Avenue. While en route, dispatch advised that the victims had relocated to the 500 block of W. Stevens Drive. Upon his arrival, the officer made contact with the victims and observed a bullet hole in the driver’s side rear fender and a second bullet hole in the lower center of the trunk. Following an investigation into the matter, it is alleged that the driver of the vehicle and two juveniles were in their vehicle in a parking lot in the block of 200 W. Lake Street when the driver observed a male subject throwing gang signs toward him. It is alleged that the driver confronted the man and then drove away to a business in the 300 block of W. Lake Street, where he waited for his wife and daughter. It is further alleged that while in the parking lot, three individuals approached the victims’ vehicle and one of them asked “Which you is?” then stated, “Count Love,” and struck the rear driver's side passenger window with his hand. It is alleged that when the driver drove out of the parking lot, one subject kicked the rear bumper, and the driver heard three to four gunshots strike his vehicle. It is alleged that the three individuals then fled the scene in a red sedan northbound on Neva Avenue at a high rate of speed. When processing the scene of the shooting, authorities recovered four 9mm shell casings. The investigation also found that Orozco was allegedly the man who fired the shots at the victim’s vehicle. On October 16, 2026, detectives with the Addison Police Department executed a search warrant at Orozco’s residence where they found a gun box for a 9mm R***r pistol. Further investigation found that Orozco purchased a R***r RXM, 9mm pistol on November 28, 2025. Orozco was taken into custody at this time.
“Shooting at moving vehicle in a busy commercial area, as alleged in this case, obviously not only puts the occupants of that vehicle in extreme danger, but also endangers other motorists as well as nearby shoppers and pedestrians,” Berlin said. “We are all very thankful that none of the passengers in the vehicle or any innocent bystanders or motorists were injured as a result of Mr. Orozco’s alleged actions. This type of violent and dangerous behavior will not be tolerated in DuPage County and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. I commend the Addison Police Department for their outstanding work in identifying the defendant as the alleged shooter. I also thank Assistant State’s Attorneys Anne Nyberg and John Segoviano for their efforts in bringing charges against Mr. Orozco.”
“This type of gang violence and the complete disregard for human life is frightening and has no place in society,” Selvik said. “We will use every investigative tool at our disposal to ensure anyone who commits such a heinous and violent act is removed from the streets. I greatly appreciate the efforts of Addison detectives in this case as well as State’s Attorney Bob Berlin for his aggressive stance on gun violence. I would also like to thank the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System for its assistance.”
This morning, Orozco appeared in court where his case was re-assigned to Judge Mia McPherson. Following his appearance today, Judge McPherson ordered that Orozco remain on pre-trial detention. His next court appearance is scheduled for November 9, 2026, for arraignment.
Members of the public are reminded that this complaint contains only charges and is not proof of the defendant’s guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. # # #
