Talk to your doctor about any symptoms of lung cancer. When we find cancer early, we are more likely to treat it successfully.
You don't have to smoke to develop lung cancer. In the U.S., 10% to 20% of lung cancers occur in people who have never smoked. Adenocarcinoma, the diagnosis Pope Leo XIV has received, accounts for about half of those cases.
Lung adenocarcinoma is now the most common type of lung cancer worldwide. Researchers are studying the role of air pollution, genetic changes, and other factors. Radon, secondhand smoke, and certain workplace exposures are also known lung cancer risks.
