๐Ÿ‘‹ Have you been meaning to stop by your local Senior Center?

Consider this your invitation!

Whether itโ€™s been a few weeks, a few years, or youโ€™ve never visited before, thereโ€™s a place for you at our Lenawee County Senior Centers. โค๏ธ

Come for lunch. Join a game. Try an activity. Catch up with old friends or make some new ones. You donโ€™t have to know anyone, and you donโ€™t need a special reason to stop in.

Sometimes the hardest part is simply walking through the door. After that, you might wonder why you waited so long. ๐Ÿ˜Š

๐Ÿ“ With Senior Centers throughout Lenawee County, thereโ€™s one near you. Come say hello. Weโ€™d love to see you!

๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’› Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Tommy!

This month, weโ€™re shining the spotlight on Tommy Brown, one of the wonderful volunteer drivers with the Lenawee Department on Aging Transportation Program!

For Tommy, volunteering is about connection, purpose and giving back.

๐Ÿ’ฌ โ€œI like to meet new people, and it gives me a sense of purpose to serve and give back to my community. And if everybody knew how good it feels in your heart to help people and to do the will of God, I think they would be doing it too.โ€

๐Ÿ‚ Favorite Fall Activity: Riding recumbent trikes with his wife
๐ŸŽ Favorite Halloween Treat: Candy apples
๐Ÿ“š Hobbies: Reading, going to church, woodworking and, of course, riding his trike!

Thank you, Tommy, for sharing your time, your wheels and your heart with older adults throughout Lenawee County. Weโ€™re grateful to have volunteers like you helping our neighbors stay connected and get where they need to go! ๐Ÿš—โค๏ธ

๐Ÿ‘€ Seeing isnโ€™t always believing. And now, neither is hearing.

Scammers are using artificial intelligence to create convincing fake videos, photos and even voices, called โ€œdeepfakes.โ€ A phone call could sound just like your grandchild. A video could appear to feature someone you trust. But it may all be fake.

๐Ÿšฉ If someone suddenly asks for money, personal information or account access, especially with a sense of urgency, STOP and verify.

๐Ÿ“ž Call the person directly using a number you already know.
โŒ Donโ€™t send money based on an unexpected call or message.
๐Ÿ” Never share passwords, PINs or verification codes.

AI may be getting smarter, but one simple step can still stop a scam: verify before you trust.

๐Ÿ’™ Caring for an older loved one is a family affair.

As cold and flu season arrives, one way we can help protect the older adults in our lives is by making sure the whole family is up to date on recommended vaccinations. Flu, pneumonia, RSV, whooping cough and other illnesses can be especially serious for older adults.

Whether youโ€™re a spouse, adult child, grandchild, friend or caregiver, taking care of your own health can help protect the people you love, too. ๐Ÿ’‰๐Ÿฉน
