🚨 SCAM ALERT: Don’t Fall for Fake Warrant Calls 🚨

The scams keep coming, and scammers are getting creative. We are seeing reports of callers impersonating law enforcement officers and claiming that the person answering the phone has an active warrant for their arrest. The latest scammer working Lenawee County is identifying himself as Lieutenant Timothy Parker. THIS IS A SCAM!

The caller may tell you to not go to the Sheriff’s Office or Police Department in person and try to scare you into paying money over the phone, or providing personal or financial information to ā€œresolveā€ the warrant.

Here are some red flags that the call is a scam:
• šŸ“ž The caller demands immediate payment to avoid arrest.
• šŸ’³ They ask you to pay by gift card, prepaid card, cryptocurrency, wire transfer, or another unusual method.
• ā° They pressure you to act immediately and threaten arrest if you hang up.
• šŸ” They ask for your Social Security number, bank information, passwords, or other sensitive information.
• šŸ‘® They claim to be an officer but refuse to let you independently verify their identity.
• ā˜Žļø They tell you not to contact law enforcement or anyone else to verify the information.
• šŸŽ The caller ID, voicemail, or name may look legitimate—but caller ID can be spoofed.

Remember: Legitimate law enforcement will not demand that you pay money over the phone to avoid arrest.

If you receive a call like this, hang up. Do not provide personal or financial information, and do not send money. If you are concerned that there may actually be a warrant for your arrest, contact your local law enforcement agency using a phone number you know is legitimate—not a number provided by the caller.

Please share this warning with your friends, family, and especially anyone who may be vulnerable to these types of scams.

Memorial Day is a time to honor and remember those who gave their lives while serving in the U.S. military. It’s more than a long weekend; it’s a solemn moment to reflect on the sacrifices made through service. May we always remember the true cost of our freedom. šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø

During National Police Week, we pause to honor the brave local, state, and federal law enforcement officers who gave their lives — or were disabled — in the line of duty while serving their communities and our nation.

Observed each year on May 15, Peace Officers Memorial Day was established by Congress and signed into law by President John F. Kennedy in 1962 to recognize the courage, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication of America’s peace officers.

To all who serve with honor, courage, and commitment — thank you. We will never forget the fallen, and we will always stand beside those who continue the watch. šŸ’™šŸ–¤ https://nleomf.org/

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect Friday from 5 AM to 4 PM as freezing rain is expected to impact the area. Widespread ice accumulations of a tenth to two tenths of an inch are expected, although locally higher amounts are possible. Be prepared for slippery conditions for both driving and walking, as well as scattered power outages especially if ice accumulations approach a quarter inch.

Crash Responder Safety Week is a reminder that the people protecting you on the roadside need protection too. Each of these patrol vehicles was hit while our troopers were helping other motorists. These crashes were preventable.

Michigan’s law is simple: slow down and move over when approaching any emergency or service vehicle with lights activated. Move into an open lane if you can. If you can’t, slow at least 10 mph below the speed limit and pass with caution, giving responders as much space as possible.
