Aiken County Parks & Recreation is looking for a motivated, hands-on leader to join our team as the Park Supervisor at Langley Pond Park!

This isn't your typical park position! Langley Pond Park is home to regional and national sporting events, water racing, rowing competitions, disc golf tournaments, festivals, and year-round outdoor recreation.

We're looking for someone who enjoys working outdoors, leading a team, maintaining beautiful public spaces, and helping bring exciting events and programs to our community!

🚧 PARK IMPROVEMENTS UNDERWAY AT THOMAS PARK! 🛠️🌳

Aiken County Parks & Recreation and Building & Grounds are continuing their efforts to improve our parks and recreational facilities throughout the county!

📍 Thomas Park – 117 Johnson Rd, Belvedere, SC 29841

🔨 CURRENT REPAIRS:
✅ Playground barrier repairs
✅ Court surface repairs
✅ Fencing repairs

These improvements are part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining existing facilities while expanding recreational opportunities across Aiken County.

🌳 PARK UPDATE: SPANN-HAMMOND PARK
📍 124 Spann Hammond Road, Beech Island, SC 29842

Aiken County (Parks & Recreation and Building & Grounds) are continuing improvements at Spann-Hammond Park as we work to better utilize this 26-acre property and expand its recreational opportunities. The bridge adjacent to the park is officially re-opened, ahead of schedule.

Recent and ongoing work includes:

🅿️ Parking Improvements – An existing shelter has been removed to create additional parking space, and material has arrived to help level and improve the parking areas.

🪵 Split-Rail Fence Repairs – Sections of the park’s wooden split-rail fencing are being repaired and improved.

🌿 Boardwalk Repairs – Maintenance and repairs are underway on the boardwalk along the nature trail.

💧 Pond & Vegetation Management – The pond level has been temporarily lowered to allow crews better access for fall and winter vegetation clearing and shoreline maintenance.

🥾 Expanded Trail Mapping – Staff will be mapping additional trails throughout the property to better identify and utilize the park’s existing trail network.

🥏 Future Disc Golf Course – We are also exploring the trail-access area as the future site of a disc golf course, adding another recreational opportunity while taking advantage of Spann-Hammond’s natural setting.

These improvements are part of our continued effort to invest in existing parks, improve accessibility and maintenance, and find new ways for residents to enjoy Aiken County’s outdoor spaces.

It’s a busy weekend for Aiken County Parks & Recreation! 🌳⚽🛹🚣

From the water to the fields and community spaces, there’s plenty happening across Aiken County:

🚣 Langley Pond 5K Regatta – Rowers take to Langley Pond for a full day of racing, continuing the park’s long history as a regional rowing destination.

🎉 Recreation Center at Palmore Memorial Park – Aiken County recently celebrated the ribbon cutting of the newly renovated recreation center in Graniteville, officially named in honor of Minnie Palmore and her lasting impact on the community.

⚽ Youth Soccer at Harrison-Caver Park – Our fall youth soccer league is underway, with young athletes hitting the field for practices and developing their skills while having fun.

🛹 Skate Community Event at Harrison-Caver Park – Today, local skaters, bikers, families, vendors and community organizations are coming together to showcase the growing interest in skating and wheeled recreation in Aiken County.

These activities represent what Aiken County Parks & Recreation is all about—creating opportunities for recreation, competition, community partnerships and quality experiences for residents throughout the county.

🚁 A Unique Building Calls for a Unique Cleaning Solution!

As we prepare the Finish Line Tower at Langley Pond Park for the upcoming regatta, we brought in Mr Clean Machine USA to tackle the job from a different angle — using a drone to clean the exterior of the tower!

With its three-story design and location directly on the water, the Finish Line Tower isn’t exactly your typical building to clean. This innovative approach allowed crews to reach those difficult exterior areas while helping us get the facility looking its best for race weekend.

The work is also part of a bigger transition for the Finish Line Tower. Beyond its role in rowing and water-sport events, we’re preparing this one-of-a-kind waterfront facility and adjacent viewing platform for expanded rentals, meetings, weddings, and special events.

Preserving what makes our parks unique while finding new ways for the community to enjoy them — sometimes that just takes a little creativity… and a drone! 🚁💦

The local skate community has a vision is to create a free-to-use public skate park that would be open 365 days a year. The proposed park would be constructed with durable concrete, creating a long-lasting, low-maintenance space for skaters and the community to enjoy.

🤝 Community Partnerships in Action!

Today, we had the opportunity to welcome South Carolina Recreation and Parks Association’s SC LEAD program to Aiken County! The group toured our newly renovated Aiken County Recreation Center and toured Langley Pond Park, where the state leadership group got to see drag boats testing/tuning on the water and learn more about our approach to special events and community partnerships.

The impact of the MillTown Showdown (2nd Annual Mill Town Showdown, Langley Pond) goes far beyond racing. Through partnerships surrounding this unique event, Hooked On Wounded Warriors is preparing for its first guided fishing trip, creating an opportunity to give back to wounded veterans and their families.

Great parks and facilities create opportunities — but strong community partnerships are what help turn those opportunities into lasting community impact.
