Thank you to all of our volunteers who came out to celebrate World Rivers Day with Summit SWCD and Paddle the River staff! Together, we took 120 lbs of trash and 9 tires out of the Cuyahoga River!

Last week, during Stormwater Awareness Week, Sagamore Hills Township planted a rain garden with local elementary students! Almost 30 students, teachers, and volunteers helped plant and mulch the new park rain garden! 🌸

The students learned what a rain garden is and how it functions to reduce stormwater! 💧 They received giveaways from the Surface Water Management District, white oak seedlings from Summit Metro Parks, and pizza from Russo’s in Northfield! 🌳🍕

We had a blast and learned a lot! ☀️ Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time and skills! 🌿

💚Help us welcome Noah Strozier to our Wild Ones Greater Cleveland volunteer team!

💚 In his new role, Noah will help us strengthen Wild Ones Greater Cleveland’s presence in Summit and Portage Counties, build relationships within those communities, and support local outreach, education, and engagement as we continue growing across Northeast Ohio.

💚 He’ll also be contributing to our education efforts by writing a monthly Native Plant of the Month feature that we can share in our newsletter and across social media. 🌼📚

STORMWATER AWARENESS WEEK 💧

Did you know that deicing salt can impact our waterways?❄️ When snow and ice melt, excess salt washes off driveways, sidewalks, and parking lots into storm drains and eventually into our streams, rivers, and lakes. Too much salt can harm aquatic life, affect drinking water, and damage plants.

STORMWATER AWARENESS WEEK💧

Did you know leaving fallen leaves in your yard can help protect our waterways? 🍁 Instead of blowing or raking every leaf to the curb, leave them in garden beds or mulch them into your lawn. Leaves help build healthy soil and provide habitat for wildlife.

Keep leaves out of storm drains and away from streams to help prevent clogs and excess nutrients from entering our waterways.

Give your rake a break! 🍂💙
