October marks Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This was started in October 1987 as a way to connect those individuals and organizations working on domestic violence prevention issues.

Since 1987, a great deal of progress has been made on a national level to support domestic violence victims and survivors.

Here at the Akron Municipal Court, we have two specialized dockets that focus on domestic violence: Family Intervention Court and Restore Individual Self-Empowerment (RISE).

Judge Ron Cable leads both of these initiatives. Both have a goal to address underlying issues and help individuals create a new life path.
