At Viva Science SA at UTSA on May 2, the Department of Biology set up a booth where student volunteers taught kids how to extract DNA from strawberries and explained the underlying science. They did a fantastic job, and it was a busy and exciting day! 🍓🧬

Anyone with a smartphone can take part for free. Just download the iNaturalist app (more info at https://www.inaturalist.org/) and create an account. Then join UIW’s team. Any member of the UIW community, including alumni and friends, can join and score points for us. All you do is take pictures of non-captive organisms and share them to the iNaturalist database.

On Tuesday, December 9, the Biology Department hosted its annual Research Symposium in the SEC Ballroom. Students from BIOL 3202 Research in Cell & Molecular Genetics and BIOL 4399 SEAPHAGES: Viral Discovery showcased their semester-long research projects. Congratulations to all participants and to our Biology Award winners for their outstanding achievements!
