🔥 VEHICLE EXTRICATION TRAINING HELD IN ALAMOGORDO! 🔥

July 20th to the 23rd, the Alamogordo Fire Department hosted a Technical Rescue: Vehicle Rescue I course through the New Mexico Fire Fighters Training Academy.

The class was led by Lt. William Skaggs and Lt. Stroope, with the assistance of a student instructor, Engineer Sam Soto, from the Carlsbad Fire Department.

In addition to developing the next generation of vehicle rescue technicians, opportunities like this allow us to mentor and develop new instructors, giving them valuable experience teaching alongside experienced instructors and helping build the future of fire service training in New Mexico.

We were excited to welcome firefighters and emergency responders from across southern and central New Mexico, representing:
🚒 Alamogordo Fire Department
🚒 Dona Ana County Fire & Emergency Services
🚒 CNM – Central New Mexico Community College
🚒 Mesilla Fire Department
🚒 Mescalero Apache Fire Rescuee
🚒 Otero County Fire & EMS District 7
🚒 Jack Rabbit Flats
🚒 Deming Fire Department

Bringing agencies together for hands-on training strengthens individual responders, develops future instructors and leaders, and strengthens the entire emergency response system across our region. When the call comes in, we may wear different patches—but we work toward the same mission: serving our communities and saving lives.

🔥 Train together. Teach together. Work together. Serve together. 🚒

Today, we pause to remember the 19 members of the Granite Mountain Hotshots who made the ultimate sacrifice on June 30, 2013, while protecting the community of Yarnell, Arizona.

The Granite Mountain Hotshots were an elite Type 1 Interagency Hotshot Crew based in Prescott, Arizona. Known for their exceptional training, discipline, and teamwork, they were called upon to battle some of the nation's most challenging wildland fires. On June 30, 2013, while working to protect lives and homes during the Yarnell Hill Fire, the crew was overrun by rapidly changing fire conditions. Nineteen members of the crew lost their lives in what remains one of the deadliest wildland firefighting incidents in modern U.S. history.

Their story is more than a reminder of a tragic day; it is a reminder of the commitment, courage, and selflessness demonstrated by firefighters every day. Whether responding to wildland fires, structure fires, vehicle accidents, medical emergencies, hazardous materials incidents, or natural disasters, firefighters willingly place themselves in harm's way to protect people they may never meet.

Today, we ask our community to take a moment to remember the Granite Mountain Hotshots and to recognize the men and women of the fire service who continue to answer the call every day. You can honor their legacy by practicing fire safety, preparing your family for emergencies, supporting your local fire department, and taking simple steps to help prevent emergencies before they happen.

The legacy of the Granite Mountain Hotshots lives on through every firefighter who serves with courage, integrity, and compassion. Their sacrifice reminds us that behind every uniform is a person who has chosen a life of service for the benefit of others.

Please join us in remembering the Granite Mountain Hotshots and all firefighters who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Their service will never be forgotten.

FYI

We're excited to announce that we are in the process of implementing our new Next Generation 911 (NG911) system. This will take place today and will last a few hours. 🚨

While dialing 911 remains the same, our upgraded system provides telecommunicators with enhanced technology to help serve our community more efficiently and accurately during emergencies.

What This Means for You:
• Continue to dial 911 for emergencies.
• Enhanced location capabilities help dispatchers locate callers more accurately when available.

Remember:
• Only call 911 for emergencies where police, fire, or EMS are needed immediately
• For non-emergency situations, please use the following number: 575-439-4300
• Stay on the line, answer the dispatcher's questions, and never hang up until instructed to do so.
