🦺 Having your car break down on the Thruway or working in a roadside work zone should not be a death sentence.

I joined New York State Police and the Department of Transportation to remind Capital Region drivers that moving over for disabled vehicles and work zones is the law in New York State.

When you see flashing hazard lights this fall weekend, slow down, move over, and remember that every driver and worker deserves to get home safely.

We cut the ribbon on Albany’s newest mural outside Nine Pin C***r yesterday and launched the new CHARM Initiative, which will support more of these in communities across the District. Public art beautifies our neighborhoods and reminds us why the Capital Region is such a special place to call home.

Thank you to the New York State Council on the Arts for supporting our artists and investing in our communities.

On White Cane Safety Day, I stopped by the Northeastern Association of the Blind at Albany (NABA) to present a proclamation as Chair of the Senate Disabilities Committee and join our blind and visually impaired neighbors to raise visibility.

Remember to slow down, be alert, and watch out for everyone on our streets!

🏗️ Years ago, I led the fight to keep the $1.7B Wadsworth Labs consolidation project here in the Capital Region as part of our growing research and nanotechnology corridor.

Fast forward to today, and we’ve created hundreds of good-paying jobs in the trades and are adding up to 400 new jobs in the life sciences and public health sectors. Our Capital Region learned of Wadsworth’s importance firsthand during the COVID-19 pandemic and other public health emergencies.

The multiplier effects that will reverberate thanks to this investment will have an outsized impact on Uptown Albany. As many of you know, I remain committed to a 21st-Century Harriman Campus that includes room for housing, retail, and mixed-use space.

Projects like these should be leveraged to grow our tax base and remove or repurpose the infamous ring roads around the campus. Here in the Capital Region, though, we continue to build and move forward.

🎙 The young people stepping up today are our leaders of tomorrow, which is why I'll always fight for more working and middle-class students to be able to afford their dream of a higher education or apprenticeship program.

That's why I led the successful fight to make the first changes to the state's Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) in more than 25 years, enabling more students from lower- and middle-income households to afford college or university.

I was thrilled to talk to these University at Albany student leaders about why it's so important to reach out a hand behind you, pay it forward, and lift someone up along with you, and how they can use their voice to fight for the voiceless among us.

Our future here in the Capital Region remains bright and in good hands.

✂️ Sometimes, it takes a community. Those words couldn’t be truer when it comes to what we’ve collectively mobilized to save the Saint Rose campus.

Today, we cut the ribbon on a new Massry Center for the Arts that will serve as an educational and community arts hub under Hudson Valley Community College.

When I crafted the legislation creating the Pine Hills Land Authority, this is exactly what we had in mind—the community controlling and deciding the future for what had always been a strong community asset and partner in the College of Saint Rose.

To see this come full circle today should ignite the hearts of our Capital Region artists, musicians, performers, and all who recognize the importance of the Massry Center.

I’m looking forward to seeing what’s next in store for our Pine Hills neighborhood and community.

Today, I stopped by Postage Stamp Ping Pong park on Central Ave. in Albany to present them with a $10,000 operating grant secured by my office!

This postage stamp park has transformed a neglected, forgotten lot into a creative recreational space for youth and adults alike.

Scott Schuster, the park creator, worked tirelessly to make this idea a reality and now the park is home to ping pong and chess for people of all ages.

With support from the Central Avenue BID, Business For Good, and countless community members, this park is bringing joy to the corner of Henry Johnson Boulevard and Central Ave.

I’m looking forward to stopping by again soon for more ping pong, and in the meantime, you can support Postage Stamp Ping Pong through their website here: pspong.org

On Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we celebrate the Haudenosaunee and Mohican people who were the original stewards of the lands that now encompass our Capital Region. Their rich traditions, history, and contributions continue to guide us.

You can explore Haudenosaunee, Mohican, and indigenous history and culture in our region by visiting the Iroquois Museum, New York State Museum, Tribes Hill Heritage Center in Fonda, and many more.

Once again, another rogue, armed, and masked ICE agent has unleashed terror on our streets, shooting 7 bullets into a car with a young child in it.

How many more lives must be put at stake or lost before we put an end to this reign of terror? Make no mistake: these tactics are un-American, unconstitutional, and terrorizing our communities.

They jeopardize the hard-fought trust and relationships that local law enforcement has spent years building across our state, and make all of us less safe. Like many New Yorkers today, I am outraged.

This is exactly why we passed a law to limit local law enforcement's cooperation with ICE in New York State, and I will continue to stand with our immigrant communities and neighbors across the Capital Region.
