New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services Official page of the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services

New York is one of the safest large states in the country, a standing that can be attributed to the work of public safety and criminal justice professionals and policy makers at all level of government, including those who work for New York State. This page primarily highlights the work of two state agencies: the Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS, online at criminaljustice.ny.gov) and the Office of Victim Services (OVS, online at ovs.ny.gov). It also features information from the state Commission of Correction (SCOC, online at scoc.ny.gov). Also shared on this page are missing child, missing college student, or missing vulnerable adult alerts, which are activated by the New York State Missing Persons Clearinghouse, which is part of DCJS.

Local investigations. Statewide support.

Our Crime Analysis Center Network helps law enforcement agencies of all sizes access shared expertise, technology, and information to move investigations forward and identify connections that might otherwise go unseen.

Deputy Commissioner Mark Heller spoke with Police1 about how the network operates, the services available, and what other states or regions can learn from New York’s approach.

Behind every ring of this bell was a young person who needed help and a team determined to find them.

This week’s three-day Long Island Missing Child Rescue Operation located 34 children and teens, with partners working together to support their safety and stability.

Proud to co-lead this effort with the New York State Office of Children and Family Services and the National Child Protection Task Force, with support from the New York State Police and nearly 40 agencies and organizations.

A DNA lead. A 30-year-old case. An arrest.

For Forensic Science Week, we’re showing how familial searching helped investigators revisit evidence from a 1995 sexual assault in Brooklyn. DCJS reviewed and approved the search request, and prosecutors and detectives followed the lead to a Bronx man who has now been charged.

Hear from the Brooklyn DA’s Office about how the case moved forward.
