Left over prescription medications you no longer need?
Does your medicine cabinet have expired over-the-counter meds?
Helping an elderly family member clean out?
Not sure what to do with these medications??

Please join APD and our partners at Stanly County Project Lazarus in our next Community Medication Take Back.
📅Thursday, October 22, 2026
⏰1:30-3:30pm
📍The Commons parking lot (2nd Street side across from the hospital)

This program is part of Operation Medicine Drop, a free, safe drug take‑back initiative in North Carolina. We are collecting unused or expired prescription and over-the-counter medications.
💊Please be sure to bring solid forms only (e.g., pills, capsules, tablets)
🐕Even animal meds!
🚫Do not bring empty bottles, inhalers, liquids, ointments, syringes or needles.
❎Please remove all personal information (name, address, ID) from containers or packaging

Proper disposal prevents medications from ending up in the wrong hands or contaminating the water supply. All collected medications are securely destroyed by law enforcement or partner agencies under supervision.

Safe disposal of medications can help save lives. Help keep our community safe. We hope to see you next week!

💊 It’s time to clean out those medicine cabinets, junk drawers, and expired prescriptions! Discard them safely on October 22nd from 1:30pm-3:30pm right here at Stanly Commons (2nd Street Parking lot side)!

👮‍♂️ COMMUNITY APPRECIATION 👮‍♀️

The Albemarle Police Department would like to give a big shout-out to our friends at the Shell station / Refuel 138 (located at 1607 NC 24-27 Byp W)!

Store Manager Amanda and her team have started a donation collection dedicated to keeping local first responders hydrated. Their latest "stash" of hydration supplies was gifted to APD, including over 85 energy drinks and 2 cases of water! Our officers are incredibly grateful for this generosity!!

We are so fortunate to have businesses like Refuel 138 that proactively step up to support the men and women keeping Albemarle safe. Thank you, Amanda and team! 🥤🚔🙌

This week, APD had the honor of welcoming Officer Keith Sigmon to the department as he took his oath during his swearing‑in ceremony.

Robert "Keith" Sigmon II brings 22 years of dedicated service to Albemarle Police Department, a return that marks a full-circle moment in his career. Years ago, APD sponsored Keith to attend the Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) at Stanly Community College, inspiring a career rooted in community and mentorship. His passion for becoming a School Resource Officer (SRO) was shaped by two major influences: his former SRO, Mike Martin, whose long-term impact left a lasting impression, and his mother, Cindy Sigmon, a retired Sheriff’s Office veteran who served as a lifelong role model.

Officer Sigmon returned to APD to realign with his core passion—serving in schools to help students grow, thrive, and succeed. In addition to his SRO duties, he will support APD’s D.A.R.E. program. He brings specialized leadership to this role, having served as a Central Trustee on the North Carolina D.A.R.E. Board for four years and looks forward to implementing his advanced training and experience to benefit local youth.

Keith's family was there to support him as he was sworn in and pinned. Family members included, his brother-in-law, Chris Almond, sister, Lindsey Almond, who is also employed by the City of Albemarle, his mother, retired SRO Cindy Sigmon, his father, Keith Sigmon, Keith's son, Asher Denning-Sigmon and Eugene Thomen were in attendance.

Please give a big welcome to Officer Sigmon as the newest member of APD!🎉👮🏻‍♂️🚓

Stanly County V**e Stores

The Stanly County Sheriff’s Office is currently conducting an active, multi-agency investigation involving local v**e stores alongside local, state, and federal partners. Because this is an ongoing and complex operation, full details cannot be released at this time. We appreciate the community’s patience as our deputies and partner agencies work thoroughly. This is a county wide event.

We are actively looking into the possibility of rescheduling this event! Please stay tuned here and our Community Night Out event page for updates and more information in the coming days.
Thank you for your understanding, and please stay safe and dry today! 💙🖤
