The Albia Police Department has received several reports from community members about persistent scam callers claiming people have won a prize or reward.

These callers may know your name and personal information. Don’t let that fool you! Scammers can be convincing, persistent, and aggressive in their attempts to get your money.

They may instruct you to:

Go to your bank and withdraw cash.

Visit a grocery store or retailer to purchase Amazon gift cards or other gift cards.

Read gift card numbers over the phone or provide other payment information.

PROTECT YOURSELF:

Never pay money or buy gift cards to collect a prize.

Never give gift card numbers, banking information, or other financial details to unsolicited callers.

Do not trust a caller simply because they know your name.

Hang up. Do not let the caller pressure or rush you into making a decision.

Verify claims independently using a trusted, official phone number.

Talk to a trusted family member or friend if something doesn't feel right.

REMEMBER: A legitimate prize does not require you to pay with gift cards.

Please share this warning with family, friends, and neighbors. A quick conversation could help protect someone from losing their hard-earned money.

🚔 OCTOBER TRAFFIC SAFETY REMINDER! 🦌🍂

Fall is here, and with it comes an increased risk of deer-related crashes on Iowa roadways!

As we move further into October, the Albia Police Department would like to remind motorists to stay alert, especially when traveling on rural highways and county roads.

🦌 Watch for deer! Deer activity increases during the fall months, especially around dawn and dusk.

🚗 Slow down and stay alert! Give yourself additional time to react to wildlife, farm equipment, and other unexpected hazards.

🌽 Watch for farm equipment! Harvest season means more tractors, combines, and other slow-moving equipment on our roadways. Be patient and pass only when it is safe and legal.

⚠️ Don’t swerve! If a deer enters your path, brake firmly while maintaining control of your vehicle. Swerving can result in a more serious crash.

📵 Put the phone down! Distracted driving takes your attention away from the roadway when you need it most.

Let’s work together to keep our community and Iowa roadways safe this fall!

Albia Police Department
Drive Safe. Stay Alert. Arrive Alive.

🚓 THANK YOU, ALBIA! 🚒
A little rain couldn’t stop the fun! 🌧️
The Albia Police Department would like to thank everyone who came out and supported this year’s Public Safety Day! Despite the rainy weather, we had an incredible turnout and loved seeing so many families enjoying the festivities!
Our Nerf Gun Shoot House was an absolute BLAST! 💥 Between the shoot house, activities with the Fire Department, foam party, slime station, and so much more, there was no shortage of fun!
We also want to give a few very special shoutouts to some amazing local businesses who helped make our recent community events possible!
🪵 Falvey Lumber – Albia: A HUGE thank you for donating an incredible amount of lumber and plywood to help us build our Nerf Gun Shoot House! Your generosity helped us bring this idea to life and create something the kids (and adults!) could enjoy!
🍬 Hy-Vee and Jim & Charlie’s Store: Thank you both for your generous candy donations for the Lovilia Parade and Albia Homecoming Parade! Your support helped us put plenty of smiles on faces along the parade routes!
We are incredibly fortunate to serve a community where local businesses, first responders, and residents come together to make events like these possible.
Thank you again, Albia, for showing up, having fun, and supporting your local first responders — rain or shine! 💙
