Fighting fentanyl means going after the organizations supplying it and helping the people suffering from addiction.

Today, Sheriff John Allen joined county leaders to discuss a proposed emergency declaration addressing Bernalillo County’s fentanyl crisis. He called on state and federal leaders to provide additional funding for treatment at the Metropolitan Detention Center, emphasizing that people experiencing withdrawal and addiction need access to medical care and support for recovery.

Sheriff Allen also highlighted Operation Street Shield, BCSO’s effort to disrupt drug trafficking organizations and prevent fentanyl from reaching our neighborhoods. Strong partnerships with the DEA and other federal agencies remain essential to that work.

His message was clear: hold traffickers accountable, strengthen access to treatment, and give people a real opportunity to recover. Protecting our community requires all three.

A little appreciation for North Days Deputies Jefferson and Tenza, who went above and beyond this morning!

After a vehicle crashed into the median, large rocks were scattered across the roadway, causing another vehicle to sustain a flat tire and wheel damage.

Deputies Jefferson and Tenza stepped up to assist, demonstrating the kind of professionalism, compassion, and willingness to help that often goes unnoticed.

Great work, gentlemen! Your efforts are appreciated!

In 2024, Jesse Lopez was charged with sexually abusing a child after grooming the victim and sexually abusing them on two occasions.

That child found the courage to speak up and tell a trusted adult. Lopez was arrested and confessed to the abuse.

Lopez pleaded guilty to two counts of Criminal Sexual Contact of a Minor and one count of Sexual Exploitation of Children by Manufacturing. He will now spend 22 years behind bars.

A massive shoutout to Detective Carhart and the entire BCSO Special Victims Unit (SVU). These are some of the most difficult and heartbreaking cases our detectives investigate. Behind every arrest and conviction are countless hours of interviews, evidence collection, investigative work, and an unwavering commitment to seeking justice for victims.

Detective Carhart poured his heart into this investigation, and his dedication to this child and this case deserves recognition. Our SVU detectives confront some of the worst crimes imaginable, and they do it because these victims deserve someone who will fight for them.

Most importantly, we want to recognize the courage of the child who spoke up. Your voice matters. You deserve to be heard, believed, and protected.

We are incredibly proud of Detective Carhart and our SVU team for the work they do every single day to protect our community’s most vulnerable.

Yesterday, Sheriff John Allen spoke at the 100 Club of New Mexico luncheon about losses he has carried through decades in law enforcement. Friends and coworkers killed in the line of duty here in Albuquerque. People he knew, worked beside and still remembers.

Hearing from him and the families of fallen officers was a powerful reminder that the loss does not end with the funeral. Families live with it every day.

The 100 Club of New Mexico provides immediate financial assistance to the families of law enforcement officers and firefighters who die in the line of duty across our state. Their work matters deeply to us, and we believe in their mission.

An annual membership is $100, and donations of any amount are welcome. If you have been looking for a meaningful way to support first responder families, please consider joining or donating.

To the families who shared their loved ones with us yesterday, thank you. We remember them with you.
