Over at YES Housing, Inc.’s Nuevo Atrisco development, Mission ABQ and One of a Kind Kids had a great time dealing with the the latest harvest of tomatoes, tromboncino winter squash, and loads of chilis. As you can see, Falla and the Kids had a great time working together. Thank you to both of these organizations and all of our great residents for making the garden so successful!

From YES Housing, Inc.’s Imperial Building, James Landry, of Mission ABQ, reports on the rooftop community garden:
“One of the keys to growing great veggies is spending time investing in the soil. This means adding organic material, in this case coco coir, pearlite to aid in aeration of the soil, and a good balanced organic fertilizer.
As we clear beds for the fall, it is a perfect time to add all these amendments. It is hard work, to hand turn the beds and mix the soil thoroughly, but it pays off in next year's bounty.”

From YES Housing, Inc.’s Sunset Hills development in Gallup, NM - recently they held their annual flu clinic in partnership with their local Walgreens pharmacy.

According to Service Coordinator Arlene Brown: “We had an excellent turnout, and the event was very well received. A special thank you to Walgreens for visiting our site and helping keep our residents healthy. They were so pleased with the participation that they expressed interest in returning next year and asked whether I could host a flu clinic for the local senior center if one has not already been scheduled.

Overall, it was a successful event, and we appreciate Walgreens' commitment to serving our community.”

The residents of YES Housing, Inc.’s Sunset Hills Apartments spent several months preparing for the September 2026 Bi-County Fair, creating and entering a variety of handcrafted items, including diamond paintings, cross-stitch projects, and plastic canvas pieces. They were excited to showcase their talents and even more thrilled when many of their entries received recognition. One resident earned the fair's prestigious Best of Show award.

We are especially grateful for the ongoing support of Bud Lopez and Patricia Largo, representatives of NMSU McKinley County CES, who consistently go above and beyond for our residents. They assisted with labeling, transporting, and delivering the craft entries to the fairgrounds in Prewitt, New Mexico, helping ensure our residents could participate successfully in this meaningful community event.

Their dedication and support contributed greatly to the residents' positive experience and sense of accomplishment. We would also like to thank Service Coordinator, Arlene Brown, for all her hard work, for these photos, and the narrative as well as all of our tenants!

One of the most challenging and endearing developments in YES Housing, Inc.’s portfolio - Nuevo Atrisco. Construction was delayed due to the COVID pandemic but it currently stands with great partners. Our construction crews continued through the pandemic and got the job done. Thanks to all workers and Pavilion Construction for working through a very difficult time.

The team from PNM were an amazing help on their day of service as we transitioned the Imperial Building’s rooftop community garden for Fall.
They harvested several beds of sweet potatoes. helped renew the growing beds, and prepared them for future crops by adding fertilizer, perlite and coco coir, mixing this in with the existing soil.
This mix of perlite and coco coir helps create a fertile and light growing medium for our next set of crops.
They also helped us remove an underproducing grape vine. The vine was a volunteer and never produced any sizeable crop so taking out the grapevine frees up room for more desired veggies.
All the volunteers were fed green chile stew and sopapillas in Imperial’s community room to warm them up - the stew was prepared by Rebecca and the sopapillas by Imperial resident Gloria. Thank you to everyone from PNM, everyone from Mission ABQ, Rebecca, Gloria, and YES Board Member, Grant Taylor, for coordinating their Day of Service!

YES Housing, Inc. Is excited to announce that our budding Aldea del Rio development, a 100+ acre site located on Rio Bravo and 2nd in Albuquerque, NM, received an award from GreenLatinos for “Fruits of Health”! The project will transition land from heavy industrial use to a vibrant, green space featuring community gardens, a fruit orchard, and a production farm. This will provide free or low-cost produce, create employment opportunities, and offer green spaces for community use.

At YES Housing, Inc.’s rooftop garden on our Imperial Building development, it was the long-awaited time to harvest the garden’s Crenshaw Melons. James Landry of Mission ABQ expounded, “These are a large, sweet, mild melon much like a cantaloupe in flavor. After what seemed like ages, we cut into a melon and enjoyed a sweet, juicy treat, and I can attest, these melons are delicious. Despite the challenges this growing season, the harvest was good.” About 75 pounds of Crenshaw Melon were harvested from one bed along with about 5 pounds of carrots. A big “thank you” to Mission ABQ and our resident volunteers for all of their amazing, diligent work on the community garden!

Thank you to Wells Fargo for their generous grant donation to our organization. The investment helps expand access to affordable housing while supporting integrated tenant services. We were so grateful to host a dedicated team from Wells Fargo for a morning of service at our newly-built Calle Cuarta Apartments. We rolled up our sleeves to harvest, replenish soil, and help nurture spaces where residents can go gather, grow, and connect. Their time and energy are a wonderful reminder that strong communities are built through investment and action.
