Today is a BIG day for little Maisy: she's one year old!!

The Nile hippo family was celebrated by guests and their care team today with extra special treats and fun. One whole pumpkin each (a little one for Maisy!) and then an exuberant session with their boomer ball made for a very Hippy Birthday, indeed.

We get a lot of questions about how Maisy, her mom, and big sister are doing, so here's Bricker from their devoted care team to answer your biggest F.A.Cutes about the trio!

We’re back with another test of your x-ray vision this ! 🩻

In the spirit of spooky season we’ll be sharing a mystery BioPark animal x-ray every Saturday this month leading up to Halloween! Can you guess what animal this "boo-tiful" skeleton belongs to? The first person to guess correctly will get a visit from ✨The Good Luck Duck✨ in the comment section!

Did you know? Many animals here at the BioPark voluntarily participate in training that helps them take an active role in their own healthcare. Through positive reinforcement, patience, and the trusting bonds they build with their animal care specialists, these animals learn to feel comfortable and confident during routine wellness exams. This trust, along with a few well-earned treats, can make all the difference! In fact, the animal featured in this radiograph stood still and remained fully awake for their X-ray as part of a routine check-up, all without the need for sedation.

Big thank you to the BioPark veterinary team for all the care they show resident animals every day and for gathering these radiographs to give you an inside look at animal anatomy! These images are vital diagnostic tools that help keep animal residents healthy.

The ABQ BioPark and the New Mexico BioPark Society are excited to announce that ORIGAMI IN THE GARDEN, an awe-inspiring traveling exhibit, is now open at the Botanic Garden. From the entrance plaza to the Sasebo Japanese Garden, 14 delicate origami designs are transformed into larger-than-life sculptures that elevate the imagination even as they reconnect to the origins of origami—paper, which comes from plants!

Sponsored in part by Jackalope Home & Garden, each piece sits in harmony with the landscape around it while telling its own story, a concept further explored through Inside Out which features four origami designs displayed with an unfolded counterpart. Found indoors at the High Desert Rose Garden atrium, this fascinating peak into the hidden history of what was once a blank page provokes deep thought and metaphors about how our own experiences shape us, too! ORIGAMI IN THE GARDEN is included with regular admission to the Aquarium and Botanic Garden now through March 28, 2027. Learn more about this amazing installation from Santa Fe artists Kevin and Jennifer Box and their collaborators Te Jui Fu, Beth Johnson, Michael G. LaFosse, and Robert J. Lang at bit.ly/4B1IPnE, and make sure to check it out for yourself on your next visit!
