NEW MEXICO RAILROAD DAYS 2026 — RAIL SAFETY REMINDER
This weekend, September 26–27, New Mexico Heritage Rail welcomes the community to the Albuquerque South Rail Yards for New Mexico Railroad Days 2026, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM both days.
It also happens to be Rail Safety Week, making this a perfect time to remind everyone that while Railroad Days is a celebration of railroad history, the railroad around us remains an active operating environment.
Throughout the weekend, historic railroad equipment — including Santa Fe 2926 — will be moving to, from, and around the Albuquerque South Rail Yards.
Please help us keep everyone safe:
• Never walk or stand on railroad tracks unless specifically directed by authorized personnel.
• Never place cameras, phones, GoPros, coins, or any other objects on or between the rails.
• Stay well clear of the tracks whenever equipment is moving. During movements, spectators should remain at least 25 feet from the track whenever possible.
• Never climb on railroad equipment unless it is part of an authorized exhibit or tour.
• Obey railroad crossings, warning devices, barricades, and instructions from NMHR, NMRX, BNSF, and event personnel.
• Parents and guardians, please keep children close and supervised around railroad equipment.
Santa Fe 2926 will move from the NMHR restoration site toward the Albuquerque South Rail Yards Friday evening and will return to the restoration site Sunday evening. Please give the train plenty of room and enjoy the movement from a safe, legal location away from the tracks.
Railroad equipment can move at any time, in either direction, and is often much quieter than people expect.
Come enjoy the locomotives, historic equipment, exhibits, vendors, food trucks, children’s activities, speeder rides, Touch-A-Truck, and more — and help us make Railroad Days a safe weekend for everyone.
