Greetings, Friends-

This afternoon we were dispatched to a wildland fire in Avilla near a pine thicket surrounded by multiple homes started accidently. Salem Fire was also dispatched arriving on scene first assuming incident command. Additionally, the Arkansas Division of Forestry was requested due to location and access dispatching a plow crew and ranger, while the Office of Emergency Management sent an operational support team. A fire line has been established and there is a pond in the middle meaning it should be out soon but you will still see smoke about. Although unintentional, please remember the burn ban continues and conditions are such that one spark can easily cause a conflagration potentially resulting in a catastrophic situation. In addition to our people, a huge shoutout to Salem and the Forestry Division plus our awesome professional telecommunication team at 911 for the support and having our backs from call to return of service. Stay safe.

Hello, Neighbors-

We still need items due the silent auction plus desserts, such as homemade pies, cakes, puddings—whatever you can help with. The Great Lake Norrell Fire Fundraiser is October 3rd, 5-7 and we hope to see you there. We are trying to make this the largest fundraiser yet so bring a friend. Do you ever wonder about the personnel comprising your volunteer fire department? Who serves? At Lake Norrell, we have professional engineers (one is an the EMT, the other an EMR and trained in urban search and rescue), registered nurses, a fine woodworker who is also a paramedic, a college professor who is also an EMT, firefighters, and board members from all walks of life. All have received training in vehicle extrication, mass casualty incidents, LP emergencies, hazardous materials (including technicians), hazardous devices, drug labs, incident command from FEMA, and the list continues. We train hard so that when you call, we are ready. Interestingly, this is a great time to join us because new classes are coming soon and you can be part of an amazing team that really makes a difference. We need volunteers! If interested, please call the chief. You can drop in, look around—take us for a test drive. We bet you’ll like you what see and want to join. Be part of the family. See you soon.

Keegan is a Senior Member of the Saline Co. 4-H Livestock Club with a passion for firefighting and fire safety. He hopes to pursue a career in firefighting and organized this event to help others learn important safety skills.
