For many who remember September 11, 2001, the day began with an image that remains vivid 25 years later: a brilliantly clear early fall morning and blue skies that gave no hint of what was to come. Within hours, terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon outside Washington, D.C., and the crash of a fourth hijacked airliner near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, had killed nearly 3,000 people and changed the nation.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was among the many organizations called upon to respond.

Today we remember and reflect.

In honor of Antiterrorism Awareness Month, AGC's Denise Hurt and IWR's Pauline Mahoney teamed up to create an interactive IED static display / training kit that was on display at AGC's Cude Building entryway yesterday. The initiative was designed to draw attention to the types of threats USACE employees should remain vigilant in detecting and reporting.

Always remember, if you "SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING"!

A special thanks to the USACE Mission Support Battalion and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Headquarters for supporting this and other Antiterrorism Awareness intiatives throughout August.

AGC's Natalie Martinez-Vega has trained over 300 Army engineers over past seven years – most of them with the Army National Guard – on the Global Positioning System – Survey (GPS-S), a PD-CTIS-fielded system. “Surveying is a skill set that is perishable,” said Martinez-Vega. “If you don’t use it, you totally lose it.”

Learning an advanced reconnaissance survey system isn’t like learning how to ride a bike. “Surveying is a skill set that is perishable,” said Product Director Combat Terrain Information Systems (PD CTIS) Surveyor and Trainer Natalie Martinez-Vega. “If you don’t use it, you totally lose it....

This month marks the 20th anniversary of the start of AGC's DDASS program.

Developed in the aftermath of 2005 superstorm Katrina, the Defense Support to Civil Authorities Automated Support System (DDASS) is the unclassified, web-enabled, government software application developed and managed by AGC to track, coordinate, and prioritize FEMA mission assignments assigned to DoW in real time; it is the single automated tool for Defense Coordinating Elements and combatant commands.
