On October 12, Mrs. Rojas and Ken Goldstein, Dean of the School of Arts, Humanities, and Education at Ramapo College, collaborated to lead a full day professional development workshop at Montville High School. Art educators across New Jersey attended this workshop titled “From Making to Meaning.” The day provided opportunities for collaboration, sharing ideas, and connecting with fellow art educators who share a common goal, keeping creativity at the heart of everything we do!

Last Wednesday night, our Boomerang Project Ambassadors, their faculty advisors and the School Counseling Department welcomed 119 freshman and over 125 parents to their annual Family Night event! The night was built to bring the stakeholders of the community together for important conversations surrounding the high school journey from the perspectives of the student, the parent and the teacher. Our Counseling department also used this as an opportunity to help layout the framework for a successful high school journey. Everyone engaged in meaningful small group discussions about the challenges that face freshmen and how they can best navigate them through the supports within Northern Highlands from the ambassadors, their teachers, counselors, friends and their family. Parents also were able to discuss their experiences and hopes for their own children as they work through the Northern Highlands hallways, sports fields and life outside of the school to forge their own healthy pathways.

We thank all of our advisors and counselors for organizing this extremely important and beneficial event for our community year after year. We also thank our teachers, supervisors and administrators that were present to support the evening’s small group format and conversations.

On October 5th, some NHEA teachers had the pleasure of joining NHGS Girls Varsity Soccer at their Teacher Appreciation Game! It was wonderful to see the players celebrating some of the incredible teachers who make such a difference in the lives of their students!

Although the Teacher Appreciation Game against Ridgewood ended in a 2-1 loss, it was a hard fought battle. But even more so, it was a wonderful opportunity to bring our school community together and recognize the teachers who inspire, encourage, and support our students every day. 🍎👏

Thank you to all of the teachers who came out to support our girls and share in the afternoon’s festivities! We spend every day cheering on our students and pushing for their success in the classroom, so our teachers really loved switching it up as we cheered on our students outside of the classroom! We also know our teachers definitely appreciated the custom Teacher Appreciation T-shirts but, most importantly, they enjoyed feeling how much they are appreciated each and every day.

We want to thank our NHGS athletes, coaches and parents for organizing the special day and recognizing the work of our educators.

🖤⚽️❤️Go NHGS!❤️⚽️🖤

Mrs. Lardiere and Ms. Carpino’s AP Art History classes explored the prehistoric art era by recreating pieces that rely on imagery, form and ritual to further enhance their understanding of the context of art during prehistoric times. The teachers always try to find ways for students to understand the context of art from the earliest times of art making.

Check out some of our amazing clubs and activities that have upcoming meetings!

It’s never too late to get involved and try a new club to help spark a new interest or further enhance a pre-existing one! We had our activity fair for all Freshmen and transfer students last week so there are plenty of other opportunities to also explore!

Mrs. Ajalat’s APUSH class debated labor issues during the Gilded Age as an exciting interactive debate activity to end the week. Great effort by all students to really learn the intricacies of the issues from multiple points of view.
