I am Matthew Schutter and I am the Libertarian candidate for Lehigh County PA Sheriff. Here is my platform for Constitutional duties for the office of Sheriff.

As Sheriff my deputies and I will honor our oath to the Pennsylvania Constitution, and the United States Constitution. My deputies and I will protect the rights of the people at all times.

IF any of my officers violates the constitution they will be arrested, and charged with the appropriate crimes that they've been accused of. I will have a zero tolerance policy for violating the Constitution.

As Sheriff I will have an open door policy for all citizens who believe that government employees violated their rights under the constitution. I will make it a top priority to investigate the claim and if I find the claim to be true I will make an arrest for the appropriate crimes that the defendant is accused of.

As Sheriff I believe that the Jury has the right to judge the law. If activists are outside of the courthouse handing out flyers to the public about Jury nullification, I will refuse to interfere with the activist or arrest them even if a Judge orders me to. Informing people of Jury nullification is a first amendment right to free speech.

As Sheriff I will respect the Sovereignty of all Cities, Boroughs, and Townships and their legislative powers of their Councils within Lehigh County. If their law differs from the Pennsylvania or Federal law I will only serve warrants that are consistent with local law.

As Sheriff I will stop any law enforcement agencies from using asset forfeiture to seize a citizens property within Lehigh County.

The Libertarian Party of Lehigh County and Matt Schutter's campaign for State Representative in the 132nd district is looking for people to volunteer to be poll watchers on election day. This man's name is John Hurley.

A year ago today, John was shopping in Arvada, Colorado, when someone started shooting. So Johnny went to the direction of the gunfire and shot the shooter.

Then the Arvada police killed him.

For days, the Arvada City Government tried to make it sound like Johnny had been killed by the shooter, but after multiple FOIA requests and investigations, they finally owned up to the fact that their officers killed him.

Johnny was a hero, and one of the leaders of the group We Are Change Colorado, an independent media group who seeks to, in their words, "expose the fraud of the left/right paradigm and reveal that the world truly functions on a top/down hierarchy that threatens to destroy free society as we know it."

Months later, the government announced that no one would be held accountable for Johnny's killing, despite the fact that Johnny's killer, Kraig Brownlow, never even attempted to positively ID him as the shooter, or even tell him to put his gun down before killing him.

If any of us were to kill someone in a similar situation and public setting, we would undoubtedly be prosecuted for it.

Worse yet, the shooter apparently hated police and was attempting to kill as many as possible. Johnny saved the lives of Arvada Police officers, they killed him for it, and government protected his killers.

Kraig Brownlow, the officer who killed Johnny, should have been punished to the fullest extent of the law, just like they would if a civilian killed one of them.

Johnny Hurley was a hero, even before he saved lives. The Arvada government isn't fit to clean his shoes, and we will not rest until the impediments to holding government accountable for their crimes are removed.

On this day, I ask that you take a moment to remember Johnny's heroism, and the absolute travesty in how his killing was handled by the Arvada government.

RIP Johnny.
