Lehigh County Authority has officially declared a Drought Watch for our service area due to persistent dry conditions and below-average rainfall across the region.
As part of this declaration, LCA is asking our customers to voluntarily reduce water use by at least 5% as a proactive, precautionary measure to preserve supply if dry conditions continue into the coming months. You may begin to see public outreach on this topic through our website and social media channels.
For our larger customers, we recognize that a full 5% reduction may not be feasible in all operations. At this stage, the request is focused primarily on non-essential water use, and we encourage each facility to evaluate opportunities to increase conservation where possible. With that said, any efforts you can make to increase conservation opportunities within your facilities would be appreciated, and you should be reviewing your conservation plans at this stage to ensure you can respond if our region faces greater water supply challenges in the future.
Regarding LCA’s water sources, our team continues routine monitoring of our water levels. The Little Lehigh Creek is currently running well below normal, and groundwater levels are showing a declining trend. At this time, we do not have any system-specific concerns related to meeting current customer demand. Water service remains safe and reliable. This announcement is a proactive approach to addressing this concerning trend in our water supply. You can learn more on our website here:
