MEDIA RELEASE: (ARREST) CRIMINAL ATTEMPT HOMICIDE UPDATE

On Monday October 12th. 2026, at approximately 12:45 am, officers responded to a report of an individual discharging a fi***rm into a building at 311 North Hall Street. Upon arrival, officers located a victim suffering from non-life-threatening injuries and rendered first aid. The victim was transported to an area hospital by Allentown EMS to be treated for his injuries.

As a result of an thorough investigation by detectives from the Allentown Police Department Criminal Investigations Division, the following individuals were charged with the listed offenses:

Darren Linton, 36 years of age, of Allentown, PA
• Criminal Attempt to Commit Homicide
• Aggravated Assault
• Persons not to possess Fi****ms
• Fi****ms not to be carried without a license
• Recklessly Endangering Another Person
Shania Ruffin, 30 years of age, of Allentown, PA
• Criminal Attempt to Commit Homicide
• Aggravated Assault
• Recklessly Endangering Another Person

As in every criminal case, the fact that a warrant has been issued or a complaint has been filed is merely an accusation; and the defendants in this case are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

Media Release: Shooting Investigation

On Monday October 12th 2026, at approximately 12:45 am, officers responded to a report of an individual discharging a fi***rm into a building at 311 North Hall Street. Upon arrival, officers located a victim suffering from non-life-threatening injuries and rendered first aid. The victim was transported to an area hospital by Allentown EMS to be treated for his injuries.

This investigation is currently active and ongoing. There is no threat to the community.

The Allentown Police Department is asking anyone with information to call Detectives at 610-437-7721 or the Police Desk at 610-437-7753 (ext. 1). Additionally, anonymous text tips can be sent via the Tip411 App available on the Allentown Police page (https://www.facebook.com/allentownpolice) or via the Allentown Police Department website at

Today, we proudly celebrate the dedication, commitment, and accomplishments of those who have taken the next step in their law enforcement careers.

Congratulations to our newly hired officers and cadets as they complete their academy training and take the oath to serve and protect the City of Allentown. Your journey is just beginning, and we are proud to welcome you to the APD family.

We also extend our congratulations to the officers who were promoted to Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Captain. These promotions represent years of hard work, leadership, dedication, and service to our department and community.

MEDIA RELEASE: Homicide investigation

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

On Tuesday 29 September 2026, at approximately 6:53pm, Allentown Police Officers responded to a shooting in the 600 blk. Gordon St. Officers located a male suffering from multiple gunshots wounds. The male was pronounced deceased on scene.

This investigation is active and ongoing.

The Allentown Police Department would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the Hatfield Police Department and Chief William J. Tierney for recognizing Officer Ryan Sloan with a Commendation for Excellence in Policing.

Officer Sloan was recognized for his assistance in a violent assault investigation that occurred in Hatfield, where the suspect was residing in Allentown. Through prompt communication, attention to detail, and professional investigative work, Officer Sloan assisted Hatfield investigators in locating and documenting critical evidence that helped move the investigation forward and ultimately contributed to the suspect being taken into custody.

This recognition is a great example of the importance of partnership and collaboration between law enforcement agencies. When departments work together, share information, and support one another, the collective efforts of our officers and investigators can make a significant difference in bringing offenders to justice.

We thank Chief Tierney, the Hatfield Police Department, and everyone involved in this investigation for their professionalism and continued partnership. Congratulations to Officer Sloan on this well-deserved recognition!
