Upper Macungie Township Station 56

Yesterday, Upper Macungie Township Firefighters were dispatched for an MVA with rescue. Units arrived on scene to find a single SUV on its side. The SUV was down an embankment roughly 20ft. Crews performed a roof flap and used a rope haul system to get the patient safely to EMS. The rope haul system used is called a “z rig”. Complicating the extrication was the patient weight and the fresh snow.

In addition to this incident, crews responded to 7 other incidents yesterday.

Happy New Year! We would like to thank you for your continued support of Station 56. We greatly appreciate all the donations and kind words you have shared with us. Going forward, we will not be asking for any more donations for Station 56 as we are merging into Upper Macungie Township Fire and Rescue.

In our constant effort to provide you with better and more reliable volunteer service, 2026 brings some changes to our organizational structure. We are now participating in a joint “staffing program” in addition to supplying traditional volunteer manpower. By having members spend the night at a fire station, we can significantly decrease response times compared to responding from home.

We will announce additional changes throughout the year as we strive to streamline our operation.

Our members held our annual Santa Run yesterday, which was filled with festive cheer and all the holiday spirit that makes this time of year so special. It was great to see so many familiar faces waving us on, along with new faces joining in and sharing the excitement.

The volunteers at Station 56 have decked out the firehouse with Christmas lights! Swing by on Tuesday nights from 6:30 to 8 to check out the festive display and learn more about what the firefighters do. It's a great opportunity to connect with your local first responders.
