There's still some spots open for our Haunted Gingerbread House competition for teens, ages 12 to 18, that takes place on Thursday, October 22.

Teens can work in pairs or alone in constructing their entry, using materials supplied for free, thanks to Friends of Rodman Library.

Winners will receive a prize.

Chess, anyone?

The Rodman Chess Club's next meeting will be Wednesday, October 21 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Although it is called a club, there is no formal membership. Players of all ages and skill levels are welcome to visit the Rodman Auditorium during Chess Club hours when several boards are set up. Players mingle to find an opponent for a game or two and have the opportunity to face different fellow players throughout the night.

No registration is required to participate.

Two weeks from today Rodman Public Library's Cookbook Club will crown a Chili Cook-Off champion.

The club, which has no formal membership, is open to all adult cooking and baking enthusiasts. It meets on the last Tuesday of each month to discuss experiences creating a recipe from a specific cookbook or from a particular theme.

The theme for October is a chili competition with a winner being determined by a panel of judges.

Online registration is required to attend Cookbook Club meetings.

Rodman Public Library will host a special Movie Matinee on Saturday, October 24 at 1 p.m.

The 2019 film adapted from a popular 1960s television show is perfect for the Halloween season and will be presented as an interactive experience with attendees receiving a script to follow with goodies and props to enjoy during the viewing.

(Due to licensing agreements, Rodman Public Library cannot disclose the title of the film on social media, but it is listed in our online calendar).

The event is open to all ages, but due to its interactive nature, online registration is required to attend.

September's Lego Lab was a bit "emoji-nal.'

Take a look at all of the fantastic emojis fashioned by youngsters, ages 6 to 12.

Lego Lab, held on the fourth Tuesday of each month, will feature a STEAM challenge based on the fairy tale "The Three Little Pigs" on October 27.

It’s the ultimate Halloween construction competition.

Build a haunted gingerbread house out of candies and other goodies a week ahead of the holiday.

Teens, ages 12-18, can work individually or in pairs to create their haunted gingerbread house during our contest between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 22 inside Rodman Auditorium.

Competitors will use edible supplies provided by the library, thanks to the generous support from Friends of Rodman Library.

Judges will decide which haunted gingerbread house is the best and winner(s) will receive a prize.

The competition is free to enter, but registration is required at rodmanlibrary.com.
