During SCIA's HHW events, a lot of residents bring left over latex paint. SCIA will NOT take paint at HHW events because it is NOT hazardous and including non-HHW items in the contracted HHW price/lb is excessive. SCIA does NOT accept liquid latex at the Convenience Center as it will cause damage to our roll offs and expensive landfill machinery. However, HARDENED latex paint can be disposed of with your regular household garbage. To harden the paint, simply pop the top off and keep the can in an area away from young children and pets. You can expedite the hardening process by adding shredded newspaper, woodchips, or dry cat litter. Hardening packets are available at the stores where you purchase your paint and supplies. DISPOSAL should always be your LAST OPTION! Please check out tips 1-4 to help you plan for your next paint project and explore other options you might have for leftover paint. Solvent based paints are considered HHW and CAN be brought to SCIA's HHW events. Thank you!
