๐ Myth Monday: Closing Out Domestic Violence Awareness Month ๐
As we close out October, Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM), letโs end the month by challenging one final myth about domestic violence and sexual assault.
โจ MYTH: โIf someone is experiencing abuse, they can just leave.โ
๐ FACT: Leaving an abusive relationship is often complicated and can be one of the most dangerous times for a survivor. Fear, financial barriers, housing concerns, children, threats, and concerns for personal safety can all impact a survivorโs ability to leave. Every survivorโs situation is different, and everyone deserves support without judgment.
As we wrap up DVAM, remember that raising awareness doesnโt end when October does. We can all play a role in breaking the stigma, challenging misconceptions, and creating a community where survivors feel believed, supported, and empowered.
๐ Believe survivors. Challenge the myths. Be part of the change.
