One of our favorite things that we get to do is to show off some of the artistic talent that is all around us.

Last week, we unveiled a particularly special exhibit in our Community Room that we hope you’ll come by to appreciate.

Richard Schreibstein lived in Altamont for over forty years and loved our Village dearly. He was an editor and columnist for the Altamont Enterprise for many years, and his weekly column Done With Mirrors was a very funny feature of every issue. He passed away in August.

Rich was also a photographer, and a very good one.

He had a special gift for street photography, capturing new and remarkable points of view of familiar locations. It's a rare thing to encounter a scene that you've passed by countless times presented in a new light, and many of his photos won't fail to elicit a small gasp of appreciation for his incredible eye.

We are very pleased to present an exhibition of Rich’s photos in the Altamont Free Library Community Room through the end of December. Please come take a look.

Please join us next Tuesday!

At thirty-seven, with a career, husband, two kids, and a house that looked like success, Chelsea Piazza Willsey found a lump in the shower — and everything cracked open. Finding Chelsea is the unvarnished story of diagnosis, chemo, and surgery alongside the unexplainable: a falling book, a voice in an empty kitchen, angel numbers, a psychic who knew too much. Cancer didn't hand her a cure or a clean ending. It brought her back to a version of herself she'd buried alive years before — and finally, home.

Please join us on Tuesday, October 20th to learn about Chelsea’s journey. She will be selling and signing copies of Finding Chelsea at the program.

Chelsea Piazza Willsey is an Altamont resident, HR executive, feng shui practitioner, and cancer survivor whose journey through illness is the foundation for Finding Chelsea, her memoir on healing, self-discovery, and coming home to yourself.

“The past”, as William Faulkner tells us, “is never dead. It’s not even past.”

Even though the celebrations of America’s 250th anniversary are in our rearview mirror, we’re still pretty fixated on the early history of the US and our little slice of it, and so are our friends at Historic Altamont.

The Hellebergh 250th Committee of Historic Altamont has put together a terrific and educational exhibit on the homes and homesteads of Altamont and the surrounding Hellebergh region, at the time of the American Revolution and it is currently on display in our entryway display case. Please come and check it out!

You can even add your home to an interactive map of local historic locations that you might drive by every day without realizing their significance. History, it turns out, is all around us.

School might be closed today, but AFL is open! We'd love to see you, so drop in any time between 10am and 6pm!

Last chance to view this wonderful exhibit!

One of our favorite things we get to do is to show off the incredible artistic talent we have all around us. We’re very pleased to invite you to check out Pastel Impressions, a new exhibit by local artist Trudi Jacobson!

Trudi is inspired by color: Cloud formations, sunrises and sunsets are all featured prominently in this exhibit of pastels. Come see it soon! Trudi's work will be enlivening our Community Room through Monday, October 12th.

Thank you, Trudi, for sharing your incredible talent with us!

Libby users: Your attention please!

Starting October 15th, your Libby/Overdrive account will require a 4-digit PIN to log in. Overdrive is making this update to enhance security.

Is it the end of the world? No.

Is it still mildly annoying? Maybe. Depends on your perspective, probably. Anyhow...

-Your Libby PIN is the same as your library card PIN.
-Your PIN is probably the last four digits of your phone number.
-If you don't know your PIN, give us a call at (518) 861-7239 or stop by library staff can help you reset it.
