On this day 25 years ago, everything changed. 246 boarded their morning flights. 2,606 went to work. 343 firefighters, 60 police officers, and 8 paramedics began their morning shifts, never to see past 10 a.m. on September 11, 2001.

Among the lives lost that day were 343 firefighters who ran toward danger when so many were running away. Their courage, sacrifice, and devotion to protecting others stand as a lasting reminder of the true meaning of service.

Today, we remember the people and families whose lives were changed forever. We honor the first responders whose bravery cost them everything. And we pause to cherish every breath we take, to hold our loved ones tighter, and to never take a single moment for granted.

๐Ÿš’ Member highlight of the week ! ๐Ÿš‘

Cami Whitkens recently completed Firefighter 1, Firefighter 2, and successfully passed her Advanced EMT. Completing the training and requirements necessary to advance her skills and knowledge as a firefighter.

Earning both Firefighter I, 2, and National AEMT represents a tremendous commitment to training, education, and professional development. These accomplishments require countless hours of classroom instruction, hands-on training, studying, and dedication.

We are proud of Camiโ€™s hard work and commitment to becoming a well-rounded firefighter and EMS professional in the town of Alton.

Congratulations, Cami! Well deserved! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿš’๐Ÿš‘

We are proud to recognize Captain Pat Oโ€™Brien and Firefighter Trevor Smith on the successful completion of their Paramedic education through the New England EMS Institute (NEEMSI).

Achieving the Paramedic level represents a significant commitment to the fire and EMS profession. Both members dedicated countless hours to advanced classroom education, clinical training, field experience, and practical skills development while continuing to serve our community.

Congratulations to Captain Oโ€™Brien for achieving the Clinical Excellence award, and Trevor for achieving Academic and Leadership awards. Well deserved for both students!

Their commitment to professional development strengthens the capabilities of Alton Fire-Rescue and enhances the level of emergency medical care we are able to provide to the citizens and visitors of Alton.

Congratulations to Captain Pat Oโ€™Brien and Firefighter Trevor Smith!

๐Ÿ”ฅ Welcome to Alton Fire & Rescue, Alex and Aidan! ๐Ÿš’

Please join us in welcoming Alex and Aidan as our newest Student Interns with the Alton Fire Department!

Yesterday, they jumped right into training, working alongside our members on hose deployments, and acrophobia testing. They got a firsthand look at the teamwork, physical demands, technical skills, and confidence required to operate safely on the fireground.

Over the next two years, Alex and Aidan will begin the process of learning what it takes to become professional firefighters and EMS providers, while also attending college to pursue a degree in Fire Science. Theyโ€™ll have the opportunity to train, learn from our members, experience emergency operations, and build the foundation for a career in the fire service.

Weโ€™re excited to have them on board and look forward to watching them learn, grow, and become part of the Alton Fire family.

Welcome, Alex and Aidan! Weโ€™re glad to have you with us! ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿš’๐Ÿš‘๐Ÿ”ฅ

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Police versus Fire softball game scheduled for Sunday is cancelled. The PD and FD may look to reschedule it later in the season. We are sorry for the inconvenience and as always, we are thankful for the communityโ€™s continued support. We look forward to seeing everyone at the parade on Saturday.

Sincerely, APD & AFD
