A big Mission Lions Club ROAR! goes out to three of our members, Lions Jeff, Lee and Alan for participating in this past Saturday’s Rio Reforestation 2026. They joined hundreds of other volunteers in planting thousands of native tree seedlings at the Milagro Tract in San Juan, TX. By doing so, they made a lasting impact in the Rio Grande Valley. Every tree planted brought us closer to a healthier, greener future! Well done gentlemen. 🌳

Did you know that Lions Clubs provide local and global community services focused on vision care, diabetes awareness, youth programs, and humanitarian aid through the official Lions Clubs International network?

And did you know that the Mission Lions Club is currently celebrating its 101st year of service to Mission and the surrounding communities and that its members are once again giving free vision screenings to all MCISD pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and SPED students? That’s approximately 1,200 students each year!

Won’t you join us as we serve our community in these ways and many more? Message us for more information about joining our club.

At this afternoon’s City Council meeting, the City of Mission declared Thursday, Oct. 15, 2026 as White Cane Awareness Day in Mission.

White Cane Day is observed annually on October 15. It celebrates the achievements of people who are blind or visually impaired and honors the white cane as an important tool of independence, mobility, and self-reliance.

Thank you Mayor Norie Gonzalez Garza and the Mission City Council for passing this declaration which helps raise awareness of the fact that the white cane is an essential travel tool that helps users detect curbs, steps, and obstacles, and that it serves as a universal symbol of blindness and independence.

Did you know that the Lions Club is a volunteer, membership-based organization with over 1.4 million members across more than 50,000 local clubs in 200+ countries?

And that local clubs raise funds through community events and donations, and that 100% of public-raised funds are channeled back into charitable and community outreach?

And that Lions Club’s core focus areas and services include vision and blindness prevention, diabetes awareness, hunger relief, childhood cancer, disaster relief and the environment?

It’s true, and if this all sounds like something you’d be interested in helping with, you should consider joining a Lions Club near you. And if you happen to live in or near Peñitas, you’re in luck because a new Lions Club is coming to Peñitas!

For more information, call Past District Governor Juan R. Lopez at 956-292-6880. And remember, where there’s a need there’s a Lion.
