Heather Sievers for Iowa Iowa-born and raised, Nurse, Healthcare Leader, Wife, Mother of a child with rare disabilities, community advocate, Founder of Advocates for Iowa’s Children.

Iowa House Candidate D40. Ready for the next battle. Paid for by Heather Sievers for Iowa Hello. My name is Heather Sievers, running for Iowa House District 40, representing Altoona and the eastern side of Des Moines. I have learned so much from listening to people and advocating for them across the state, and I want to do more. I have seen how the current political landscape has hurt Iowans and continues to create a divide in our people. It’s time for this to change. My goals are to ensure that the voice of the community is heard, to reduce this political divide in our people, and focus instead on protecting rights and improving quality of life for all who live here. I will always choose our people over politics. This has inspired me to run for the Iowa House of Representatives seat for District 40 elections 2024. I promise to fight for better funding for our public schools, preservation our Area Education Agencies that serve all children and educators across the state, increase our minimum wage and find solutions to Iowa’s critical workforce shortage, focus on tax reform and reducing property taxes, support advancements in our healthcare system and rebuild our nursing workforce, advocate for our elderly and nursing homes, promote legislation that improves quality of life for people with disabilities, and protect all people against discrimination and working to preserve rights of all people across this state. Your voice matters to me. I want to hear from all of you and what you would like to see improve in the future. You can reach out to me anytime at [email protected]

A little bit more about me:

I am Iowa-born in Dubuque and raised in rural Panora, Iowa. I am honored to call this state home. I graduated from Adel-Desoto-Minburn high school at the age of 16 and have attended Iowa State University, Cornell College and University of Iowa, finishing my education with a dual masters in counseling psychology and clinical nurse leadership. I started my nursing career at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa working as a Nurse Preceptor and Charge Nurse before moving to Minnesota to be with my husband, Britt, to start a family in 2014. My husband is also Iowa-born and raised, a proud union member and an industrial mechanic. I spent the last 12 years working as a healthcare leader focusing on quality patient care, transformation and innovation, and am excited to start serving UnityPoint Health in Des Moines as their performance improvement manager starting in April 2024. As a mother of a child with rare disabilities, I am invested in ensuring equity and quality of services for all vulnerable or underserved populations and am the founder of Advocates for Iowa’s Children, a non-partisan group supporting advocacy for thousands of parents, children, educators and service providers across the state. Personally, I know how hard it can be to navigate complex systems, especially if you have a child or family member with unique needs. I wanted to create a group where we can learn from each other, to hear what the community needs and subsequently work together to advocate for what is best for our people. When we had our daughter in 2017, we knew she was going to need a lot of support, and it took years before we could get her diagnosis of Smith-Magenis Syndrome. There was about 18 months where my husband and I had to make the hard decision for me to quit my job to care for her. To stay together as a family while my husband was forced to pick up travel Millwright work to make ends meet, we sold our home and most of our belongings and moved into a camper so we could travel together as a family and figure this out. Family means everything to me. In 2019, we moved back to Iowa to settle down closer to our family. We knew that this would be the place to make sure she has the best life we could give her. I am proud to be an Iowan and proud to call this state home, but I know there is a lot of work to be done. Your donations to my campaign are critical to my ability to be elected into office and are sincerely appreciated. It was a lovely evening talking with Iowans tonight along side Jennifer Kirkman (House district 99) and Mandy Newton Rosenow (House district 46). We have such amazing, intelligent candidates and I’m proud to run with them. Thanks to State Rep Adam Zabner, Rep. Elinor A. Levin for helping coordinate the space at The James theater! It was special and Iowans are excited for change. Iowa House Democrats Mandy for Iowa Kirkman for Iowa

Families are struggling. That’s why several of us set up the opportunity to hear from Iowans and have some dialogue about what we need to do to improve the state and the quality of life for Iowans. Politics can be better than this. It starts by actually talking with the community and showing up. Iowa House Democrats

Really grateful to have had the opportunity last night to sit with Ben Nizzi (Dallas county supervisor candidate), Nate Boulton for Iowa House, and Nate Willems (attorney general candidate) to talk with the community about legislative improvements needed to help our economy get back on it’s feet.

Top issues were affordable childcare, rebuilding support for unions, wage growth, and healthcare costs. If you couldn’t join us but want to talk through solutions we discussed, please just reach out to me. Love to hear from you. Thank you to IBEW local 347 for hosting us!

What will candidates or elected officials do to actually help our economy and workforce?

You should come ask us. Like I’ve said over and over, people deserve to know who their candidates are.

As a union family and working mom and nurse, the economy is struggling. It’s time to work on it.

I’m excited to sit on the panel as the Iowa House Candidate for D40 with Nate Willems (for Iowa Attorney General), Nate Boulton (for Iowa House) and Ben Nizzi (for Dallas County Supervisor) today at 5:15pm at IBEW Union Hall in Ankeny.

This is an open town hall and Workforce Roundtable. Please come out, talk with us, ask us questions you need answered before voting day on Nov. 3rd!

It was a very thoughtful forum and I really appreciate the time when Republicans and Democrats can come together. Our community deserves that and I was really proud of my colleagues working to represent Ankeny and Iowa. The Ankeny Chamber of Commerce will be posting the full video tonight if people are interested in hearing about the responses from the candidates.

Thank you to the Ankeny Area Chamber of Commerce for hosting tonight’s Iowa House and Senate candidate forum, and to moderator Laura Book for leading the conversation.

We appreciated hearing from our Democratic candidates about the issues that matter to Ankeny families: affordable childcare, water quality, access to healthcare, strong public schools, and making life more affordable.

Heather Matson spoke about policies that build a future where Iowans are not just surviving, but thriving. Heather Sievers emphasized childcare, wage growth, and putting the voices of Iowans first. Amy Tagliareni highlighted the importance of listening to residents and understanding local issues. Molly Buck focused on water quality, affordability, and the need for a new direction in Iowa.

These conversations matter. Ankeny deserves leaders who listen to residents, understand the challenges facing our communities, and work toward practical solutions.

Thank you to all of the Ankeny Area Democrats who showed up tonight in support of our candidates.

Early voting starts Wednesday, October 14! Make your plan to vote and make sure your ballot is in by Election Day, November 3.

Amazing forum tonight with the Ankeny Chamber of Commerce and our community. All of the Iowa House and Senate candidates and each other’s opponents showed up tonight except one person. Take a wild guess who failed to show up….again?
