Friends in Mrs. Frederick's class have had a wonderful start to the school year. In our classroom, the "Heggerty Hero" was introduced. Working toward earning a cape and mask reminds students that being a good learner is more than knowing the answers. We talk about the importance of participating, listening, focusing, and trying our best.
Our apple exploration was just as exciting! We tasted Gala, Red Delicious, and Granny Smith apples and voted on our favorites. The children used words such as tart, sour, bitter and sweet to talk about the different tastes, giving them opportunities to develop language and observation skills.
Using our ViewBoard, we also sorted apples by color and size, played a matching game, and counted apples using ten frames. What may look like simple play is actually meaningful early math learning! Sorting, matching, comparing, and counting help preschoolers develop classification, number sense, and problem-solving skills.
Friends worked on fine motor skills using their hands and muscles. They cut out apples and used to foam and PlayDoh at center times.

The children in Miss Gibbons' room have been working on their fine motor and gross motor skills. They played with new classroom toys and playdoh. They also worked on letter D craft and coloring sheets. They enjoy the sensory room as well!

Friends in Miss Pounder's classroom have spent the 1st month of School, yes, it's been a month already 😳 ... learning new routines, how to share and take turns with peers and working hard on fine motor skills all through play. For example, playdoh scissors are a great way to work on cutting skills!
