OFFICIAL PUBLIC NOTICE
Date: August 11, 2026
FOOD SAFETY & PERMIT REQUIREMENTS
To the Residents of Modoc County:
Modoc County Environmental Health reminds the public that anyone preparing, cooking, or serving food to the public is required to have the proper permits and operate from an approved food facility in accordance with California Health and Safety Code requirements.
We are aware of food currently being prepared and served locally without the required permits and outside of an approved food facility.
This is not simply a paperwork issue. Un-permitted food operations can pose a serious risk to public health because customers cannot know whether required sanitation, food handling, cooking, storage, and temperature-control standards are being followed.
Operating without required permits may result in enforcement action, fines, and closure of the operation.
These requirements apply to everyone—no exceptions.
If you are purchasing prepared food, know where it was prepared and whether the operation is properly permitted.
Food safety is the law. Protect yourself. Protect our community.
