I was honored to serve the students, staff, and stakeholders of Alvin ISD as a trustee from 2012-2021.
My vocation and advocation is public education and my focus for Alvin ISD is to continue to provide quality learning environments, with challenging curriculum that will prepare our children for their future. After nine years, I decided to take some time off to reflect, am now recharged and ready to serve again. My passion is to serve my community and I have filed for AISD Trustee Position 4. I am
a product of this wonderful district as a proud Alvin High School alumnus. I believe in reciprocity and my desire to give back has driven me to be of service to the organization that provided me with a strong foundation. I have lived in Alvin for over forty years and am blessed to have a daughter who teaches in AISD and a son who is a freshman at AHS. Together, my husband Rodney Peterson and I have four children. My career has been in institutions of higher Education, specifically working on college access for underrepresented populations. I have taught psychology at the college level for 14 years, been a grant administrator for multiple U.S. Department of Education projects, served as a college administrator in advising and career services, and currently work in graduate level admissions. All these experiences have provided me with ability to learn what our students need most at their foundational level to succeed in careers, the military, vocations, and post-secondary degree attainment. My motivation to serve as a trustee is to share in the decision-making process for our students and their futures. My prior board service has afforded me the opportunity to be well versed in the school district budget process, understanding of special programs and federal funds, and district policies and procedures. Currently I am a member of Houston Aggie Women Club, Soroptimist of Alvin, and previously served on the Alvin Yellowjacket Cheer Booster Club. This is accomplished by continuing to hire and retain the best educators and staff, keeping up with our fast growth, and balancing the needs of the students with the financial impact to taxpayers.
