This is not an April Fools' joke; there will be a statewide emergency alert test tomorrow, April 2nd.

We will be testing the city emergency alert systems on Thursday, April 2, 2026, in cooperation with Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM). This is only a test and no action is required.

Temps will likely drop into the mid 20's Saturday night into Sunday with wind chills in the teens. Protect People, Pets, Pipes, and Plants.
There is also the possibility of freezing rain and icy roads. Please monitor road conditions and avoid any unnecessary travel.

Confidence is increasing in very cold air this weekend. Confidence is moderate to high that temperatures will fall well below normal after Friday and will persist through at least early Tuesday. Confidence is low on how cold will Southeast TX be.

A hard freeze is expected this weekend with the possibility of freezing rain.

As temperatures bounce around in Alvin, nowโ€™s a great time to get winter-weather ready:
โ€ข Wrap exposed outdoor pipes & backflow preventers
โ€ข Bring pets indoors and provide extra bedding on cold nights
โ€ข Protect sensitive plants or move potted plants into sheltered areas
โ€ข Use space heaters safelyโ€”keep them 3 feet away from anything that can burn
โ€ข Check flashlights, smoke alarms, and weather radios
โ€ข Check on elderly neighbors or those who may need extra help
