What happens after you turn on the faucet or flush the toilet?

Most of the time, we don’t give it a second thought. But beneath Ames is an extensive network of pipes and infrastructure working around the clock to keep water flowing and wastewater moving.

On the latest episode of Ames in Focus, Bill Gebhart sits down with Municipal Engineer Mindy Bryngelson to go underground and explore Ames’ water distribution and sanitary sewer collection systems.

They talk about aging infrastructure, how the City maintains and replaces these critical systems, where City responsibility ends and property owner responsibility begins, lead service lines, funding, and how Ames is planning for the future.

The next time you turn on the tap, there’s a lot more happening behind the scenes than you might think!
