Leadership Starts with Us!

Today, members of the Amesbury Fire Department joined firefighters from across three states at the Blue Ocean Music Hall in Salisbury for “Step Up and Lead,” presented by Deputy Chief Frank Viscuso.

This leadership development program was made possible through a joint initiative between the Seacoast Chief Fire Officers Association and the Essex County Fire Chiefs Association, bringing nationally recognized leadership training to firefighters and officers throughout our region.

Strong leadership is essential at every level of the fire service, regardless of rank or position. Opportunities like this reinforce the importance of accountability, teamwork, communication, and personal growth.

We thank both associations for their commitment to professional development and Deputy Chief Viscuso for sharing his knowledge, experience, and passion for building stronger leaders in the fire service.

Leadership isn’t just a rank — it’s a responsibility.

🚒🔥 Fire Prevention Week & Fire Safety Month in Amesbury! 🔥🚒

Wednesday, our Group 3 crew spent time with classes at the Shay School for a fun and educational visit focused on fire safety!

Students had the opportunity to get an up-close look at our ladder truck, learn about the equipment firefighters use, and ask questions with FF Garrett, who helped bring the fire service to life for our young learners. 🚒👨‍🚒

A special shout-out to FF Garrett King, who is part of our Fire & Life Safety Education Team and helps support our department’s ongoing commitment to educating our community about fire prevention and safety.

Fire Prevention Week and Fire Safety Month are great reminders that building safe habits starts at a young age. We love getting out into our schools, connecting with students, and helping the next generation learn how to stay safe!

A big thank-you to our teachers and students for welcoming us. We always enjoy these visits, and we look forward to seeing you again! ❤️

Fire Prevention Week starts today! We're joining the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and MA Dept. Of Fire Services to promote this year's theme, "Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower.” As rechargeable batteries power more and more of the devices we use every day, battery-related fires are increasing too.

🌧️💨 WEEKEND STORM PREPAREDNESS 💨🌧️

A significant, long-duration coastal storm is expected to impact our region beginning tonight and continuing through the weekend.

The National Weather Service is forecasting periods of heavy rain and strong northeast winds, with the potential for downed trees and limbs, localized flooding, difficult travel, and power outages. The combination of prolonged wind, rain, and trees that are still fully leafed may increase the potential for tree damage and outages.

Amesbury Fire Rescue and Amesbury Emergency Management encourage everyone to take some time before conditions deteriorate to prepare:

🔹 Secure outdoor furniture, decorations, trash cans, umbrellas, and other loose objects.

🔹 Charge cell phones, battery packs, flashlights, and other essential devices.

🔹 Make sure you have necessary medications, food, water, and other essential supplies available.

🔹 Check flashlights and batteries and avoid relying on candles during a power outage.

🔹 Never operate a generator inside a home, garage, basement, or other enclosed area. Keep generators outdoors and safely away from windows, doors, and vents.

🔹 Stay away from downed wires and assume every downed wire is energized.

🔹 Never drive through flooded roadways or around barricades.

🔹 Check on neighbors, family members, older adults, and anyone who may need additional assistance during an extended outage or emergency.

📱 Stay informed. Monitor official City of Amesbury, Amesbury Fire, and National Weather Service updates throughout the weekend.

Conditions and forecasts may change as the storm develops. Please take the opportunity to prepare now, use caution throughout the weekend, and help us keep Amesbury safe.
