Throwback Thursday
Today we would like to share a beautiful plate from the art book From Amherst to Cashmere by Margaret Jean Taylor, which features ten colored handprinted etchings paired with twelve selected poems of Emily Dickinson. In 1957 Taylor studied under Hans Hofmann and received her MFA from UMass in 1992. Primarily a landscape painter and printmaker, she had exhibits at Gallery A3 in Amherst as well as other galleries in Western Mass and New York City.

Novel Beginnings: The Answer
We are big fans of Chris Bohjalian, whom we even brought to Amherst in 2014 for our On the Same Page program. His latest novel, "The Amateur", is about a young woman, a golf prodigy, who kills a caddy with a stray ball at the country club. The investigation of this freak accident reveals a dark and shocking tale of secret affairs, predatory men, and a teenager on trial. When it comes to luck, we can agree that the eponymous character in the novel was extremely unlucky, at least at the start of the story.
