You might know that the Friends of the Amherst, Ohio Public Library host Spring and Fall Book Sales every year, but do you know what else they do?
The Friends of the Library support the mission of the library and benefit our wonderful community with their fundraising and volunteering throughout the year!
Every year, the Friends provide a brand new book to every kindergarten student in Amherst, Firelands, and St. Joe's, and visit the schools to deliver the books and read to the students! They also sponsor a free Community Shred Day every summer, which always proves to be very popular!
This summer, they had a sign installed at the corner of SR-58 and Park Avenue that directs travelers to the library, and they also purchased the bus/food truck/van/the-sky-is-the-limit-vehicle and the kitchen that our young (and sometimes not so young) friends play with every single day!
Members of the Friends volunteer their time to help with programs for all ages, seed packing for the Spring Street Seed Library, the Craft Supply Swap, the Summer Reading Fun Fair, and more all year round!
Of course, this is just a sampling of all of the wonderful things that the Friends of the Amherst Public Library do to support our library and our community, and we appreciate everything they do, every day of the year!
You can support and thank the Friends by stopping in at their Fall Book Sale, which is coming very soon! The sale starts with a members-exclusive preview at 3pm on Wednesday, November 5, and is open to the general public 10am - 4:45pm on Friday, November 6 and Saturday, November 7. If you want to take advantage of the exclusive preview on Wednesday, memberships start at $10 for an individual and can be purchased at the door.
